The move wa-s started when predic tions were made that hostilities would last for six months. The controlling Chinese govern ment yesterday issued orders for bidding anyone to accept foreign currency and assumed control ot the post office for censorship pur poses. Thousands of Chinese have abandoned their residence at Hong Kong and arc arriving here I daily. Contrartine of hop around Yaki ma has again revived interest in the local crop. There will be little or no carry-over this year among Oregon growers. Trading has been quiet of late as the few remaining lots are in strong hands. Contracts at Yakima were made at 16 cents and at 15 cents for three years crop. Coast hops are bringing 20 to 23c on the New York market. Several million pounds of old crop Oregon prunes are yet to be disposed of. The market is quiet although prices hold generally steady in the face of the Bhort new crops coming on. New crop prunes will run less than 30,000,000 pounds in this state, according to late estimates, or about 30 per cent of normal. Kastern Jobbers are quoting last year's crop of 40 50'c in 25 pound boxes at 8 cents a pound. The cherry movement In the val ley is about over for this year with the total considerably below the 2o cars predicted earlier in the sea son. Salem buyers have ceased their activities and It is expected one or two cars will see the wind up of the season. From Riddle A. E.
