The weight of this "ideal 1925 girl" Is slightly less than 118 pounds. She has gray-blue eyes and hair of golden chestnut color, bobbed of course, shingled In back but not extreme. Among the discoveries, said Dr. Slipher, Is that tbe planet Is much warmer than had been supposed and has a much denser atmosphere than It had been credited witlL These de terminations, he explained, are ten dencies in support of the theory that the planet bears life. The temperature of the planet was approximated by the Cobleni radiometer, one of the latest as tronomical Instruments, so delicate 1 that it measures the heat of distant stars. Dr. Slipher considers this device ss Important in adding to the knowledge of the temperature of planets as the Mlchelson Inter ferometer Is in determining the an gular diameter of celestial bodies. Dr. Slipher offered no final opin ions on the guessed-at and often controverted matters affecting Mars. But he emphasized, as other astronomers have, tbe strange reg uarity of the radiating lines popu larly called "canals." The fading of the polar caps with the advance of the warm seasons and subse quent darkening of the areas pre sumed by some to be tilled regions. afford the greatost argument for those contending the planet is in habited, he explained. The regular ity of the "canals," he added. Is evidence in favor of their artificial origin. A BRIDE'S DIARY A Love Story of Today ' j ' . June 3 Underground parking stations have been pro posed in London to take care of the rapidly increasing automobile traffic in the business section of the city. The Automobile Associa tion has been considering the mat- ter for some time and has propos ed that the first subway garage be built in Leicester Square, in the heart of the theatre district and not far from Piccadilly Circus. ! The underpark garage would have an entrance and exit, and : would accommodate hundreds of ; cars. It is proposed to make the garage charges depend upon the size of the car at about 12 cents ran hour, with attendants on hand at all hours of the day and night. The small or private car has become more popular in London ithls spring than ever before, and j dealers aver they cannot supply ihe demand. Formerly it was cus tomary for nearly all motor car owners to have their own chauf feurs, but since the war both men and women have gradunlly taken up the idea of doing the driving themselves. o SPANISH WAR VETS GET IN ON NEW BONUS LAW Sound Mattresses for Sound Sleep. News dispatches referring to Miss Emily Morgan, the Red Cross nurse, as the heroine of the Nome diphtheria epidemic, have reached remote Unalaska, But the people of this community are not surpris ed, for they recall her work here, where, as in Nome, she was the lone nurse working with the only doctor within hundreds ot miles. For 18 -months Miss Morgan braved the blizzards of these Al eutian Islands to bring gladness into the dlnsy homes of the na tives. Her skill and her smile al ways were at the command of the people, who found her unfailing in times of Illness and distress. One of her added duties here was that of matron in tne jesse Lee Home maintained by the Methodist Women's Missionary Society for destitute waifs. Alice Devlin, one Aleutian tot brought here, had an almost Incredible his tory. While living in a hole in tne ground with a sod roof, she saw her mother devoured by starving husky dogs. She was brought to the home with a scar on her sunk en cheeks made by the dogs. Miss Morgan nursed her back to health.
