There were several cases, however, demanding immediate at tention, and the grand Jury went into session to hear evidence ln the case of John Wilson bound over leged that he had contracted with Emery for 5,000 pounds of mohair, at the basis of 53 cents per pound, ami had advanced 1600 on the deal, j Emery failed to deliver the mohair, it was claimed, and the price ad vanced to 63 cents, causing a loss of $500 due to the breach of con tract. Suit was brought to recover SI, 000 on this showing. No defense was offered, Emery making no ap pearance, and the jury allowed the full amount of the damages. The case of George Hewitt against the American Timber and Land company on a note in the sum of 120.000, was decided in favor of the company. The Jury was out only a few minutes, returning its verdict after taking only one ballot. Jess Bahlwln was arraigned this morning tallowing his conviction on a charge of being drunk and dis orderly at a public dance. He was given 30 days in Jail, but gave no tice of further appeal, and bonds were fixed at 1350. Baldwin was -severely censured by the court for his actions and Judge Hamilton reproved Baldwin In no uncertain terms. The Judge stated that Baldwin and his associates were evidently out for what, is commonly called "a good time," as they did not take their wives along, and were appar ently not out for a dance, but to engage ln questionable enjoyment. of issuing forged chvcks.
