POPULARITY OF
DOLLAR BILL IS
TREASURY WORRY
(Awoclated I'm Loati-J Wire.)
WASHINGTON. April 8 The
raujdly growing popularity of the
dollar bill has become a problem
to treasury officials. The gov
ernment is faced with the neces
sity of either greatly expanding
the capacity of its printing plant
to meet the public demand for cir
culation of the unit of paper cur
rency, or inducing the public to
be more economical in Ha use.
Just why there is a demand for
the dollar bill that its circulation
has increased more than seven
times -since 1900 and exactly three
time since 1910 is a puzzle which
officials have started out to solve.
They hope by the study to secure
means of obtaining more sparing
use of it.
