Police said this i was the third time within the last few weeks that they had been sum moned to the Vanderbllt home to seek suspected Intruders. Letters threatening harm to her if she did oc pay 150.000 were re ceived last winter by Mrs. Van derbllt. Bern Slrro, 20, was ar rested and pleaded guilty to black mall and extortion. He was released- under suspended sentence and a two-year parole last month on condition that he return to hla father's ranch near Fresno, Cai. He also waa alleged to have writ ten a letter to Philip Rhinelander demanding $30,000. A watchman keeps guard out side her residence, but Mrs. Van derbllt feared an intruder had slip ped past the guard early today. She and one of ber daughters were In a reading room on the second, floor shortly after midnight when she though she hear noises below. She said she investigated and saw the reflection of a man in the mirror. She waa posi tive he fled when she entered the room with a revolver.
