' . j. .'. - ';....,. ; , Many people who have hoped have children imt have been disappointed in that ambition, have turned to the 'thought of adopting the children 6f othefc parents., There 'are many demands from childless families for such little ones, and it seema probable thAt 'as Jrears go on, there will be many .more homes dpen for these waifs than there are Children who need such care. Some people dread such an at tempt and feel that they may devote a great deal of effort and affection to some little one who will not prove worthy. But there may be no more risk, of, such an outcome than there is with one's own children. A certain proportion Of all children prove disappointing, .The fault is hot probably 60 much in the inborn traits of the child as it is in the meth ods of training employed by tfie parent, Easy going methods in dealing with children are ruining many, and perhaps par ents would be more likely to make this mistake with their own little, ones than they would with adopted children. The families that take children in a calculating way, with the mo tive of getting a certain amount of work out of them; which they figure will compensate them for the effort and expense, may or may not got what they expect. Such people ought not to be permitted to take children unless they are conscientious about it, and have honestly resolved to give them a good and happy home. Unless they grovj attached to them and give j them real affection and care,. the children may not be happy, and ire rather likely to be disappointing. ' .Many childless people have assumed this responsibility, and have found that these homeless children grew up into true sons and daugh ters .who have brought infinite happiness to the homes that received them. : " : r-,. ..i.- . t .- , ,, - Many people owe their failure in this" life to the fact that they never get started on time. They are just a little , late in everything they do never a moment afifad.. Always ' rjcady to throw their, hands, up before the day's work is com plete. Paramount with these human derelicts is the wish to -ct through life just as easy as possible assuming no re , sVonsrbiiity just a slow and easy, movement to wear out a ! day. They become a sort of mechanical fixture, devoid of suf ' Dcient strength to propel their initiative power, if, any they ' Jiove, and when old age creeps upon them, more useless than ever, they go to the junk heap like an old worn out piece ot machinery too late to be salvaged. The fellow who expects to lead out in this day and age and accomplish things worth while' must set a pace jiist a little in advance of the day's ac complishments mapped out. He must surmount all difficul ties and be the master bit his profession. He need not be the slave that his own delinquencies have made possible by the - lack of thrift, energy and application. Getting a good start and making a good finish will put the average man over the -top fr a successful career. . . . According to health' authorities there are more cases ot ' Jnfluenza in the state at this time than has occurred during ; any other month of .the present winter. The disease seems ; to be general, though not so fatal as during the war years ' whqn accompanied by a form of pneumonia. However, par ' ticularattehtion at this time should be given to Severe colds, "which, If not checked, might result In serious illness. With a sensational break in prices at Li verpool reported and with advices that a big grain firm In Antwerp was tn financial - difficulty, the wheat market here had a wild start today at an Immediate set back of more than five cents a bushel. . May wheat opened at J1.58J to $1.60 as against 1.60 J to $1.64, yesterday's closing figures. x Fluctuations alter the oponlng la the wheat market .were rupid, but rallies soon became the rule and extreme downturns ot 51c during the Initial , transactions proved to be the limit for at least the time being. So eager was the selling at the start that many brokers beat the opening bell by half a minute Severe upsets In the price of other grain were also wild. Rye values were smashed down seven cents a bushel and corn nearly 5c in some cases. WINNIPEG, March 20. The wheat market today waa again thrown into disorguuizalion.
