For the past eight years New York state has experienced an al mos't steady decline in ita farm population, according to statistics compiled by the New York State College of Agriculture. On January 1 of this year there were approximately 165,000 less Lpeople living on farms than there were in law, according to the figures. In 1917 the farm popula tion was 898,000. Now the total hits dropped to 733,000. In IStlK. 40, Oou tillers of the soil left to en gage in other occupations. In 1911. 34,000 more followed and In 11120, 23,000 relinquished agricultural pur suits. The exodus in 1321 was 16,- ooo. Thero was a "back to the farm" tendency In 1922, when 11,000 re turned. In 1923, however, 32,000 de serted farm for the oitles or other pursuits more profitable than farm ing, and In 1924. 21,000 left the farms in the state. , The figures show, also, that farm handa have deserted their calling. In 1917 there were 77,000 hired hands on the farms of the state. On January 1, 1925, there were 26,700 a decrease of 50,300. The report Indicated that despite these reductlona in farm population and labor, the farms of the Empire State produced record crops laat year. It was pointed out, however, that the production was made at the expense of other important farm work, and that in many in stances farmers neglected build ings, drainage and fences to de- vote their time to the production of normal yield. Liberty Theatre A meeting of the elcetrlcal con-truclor-dealurs and power company representative from all parts of southern Oregon and northern Cali fornia, was held in Medford, Fri day, March 6th. The sessions start ed oit wltn a business meeting at tile Copco office building, during which lime a general discussion was held on the subject ot "Elec tric radges," and otner trade topics of IMU'rusL A uumuer of interest ing lulKs were oeaid concerning the ever-Increasing popularity of the electro range throughout this section, some important tacts and figures being revealed in this con nection. It was stated by a representative ot The Calilornia . Oregon Power Company, that one out of every six and a bait electric customer on the Cupco system was an electric range user. This Is a remarkable allowing aud speaks well for the progressive spirit of the people of this section who are ever on the alert to adopt the latent, modern labor-saving methods of doing things. This general use of electri city in the home is made possible by the very reasonable rate for cooking and lighting combined which is offered to the consumers served by the Copco system. The business meeting was fol lowed by a dinner al the Hotel Medford, which was interspersed by several good talks on topics 'r general interest to the eleclrii uidustry.
