The principles ot rate regula
tion applicable to telephone service
have been greatly clarified n re
cent years and some of them have
been well established. It is reason
able to expect that this should
almnlifv the work ot both commis
sions and the companies In such
ra readjustments as changes In
conditions may make necessary or
desirable.
Notwithstanding the fact that
general business activity was rela
tively less In 1924 than 1923, the
average daily exchange and toll
connections In 1924 were 45 mil
lion, that Is 7.1 per cent In excess
.,( 1923. Both as to the speed and
accuracy of making tese connec
tions, the sssnuarus oi uie system
were fully maintained and the
1924 service results were superior
to those of any preceding year.

telephones for the year was 836,
