Behind every successful institution there is a dominating idea. It's the thing that makes
the wheels go round "that something "without which no man or business can long
maintain the lead. In SKAGGS STORES it is the determination to reduce operating
costs to the minimum ; to eliminate ail w aste ; to keep ourselves and our employes
up to the maximum of efficiency; to take a small profit on many transactions; rather
than a big profit on a few transactions; to render a definite service for the profit we
take and to conduct our business in a manner to convince you of the sincerity of our
aims. .

most satisfactory eVes held ln the
Portland District, and much fa
vorable comment ts heard upon
the splendid way in which the
large crowd was entertained, aud
upon the smooth way In which the
entire event moved forward. The
cooperation of the other churches
of the town was gratlrylug; part
icularly that of the. Methodist
Episcopal Church. The matter of
the unification of the great bodies
of Methodism wa. freely discussed
every day of the Conference and
the bedy went on record unanim
ously as favoring the proposed
plan of unification. This will be
voted upon at the Annual Confer
ence, next Fall, and it i. hoped
that the uuion will be effected.
At the close of the session suit
able resolutions were adopted rec
ognizing the many courttales re
ceived by the body during its stay
here: especially to the Koseburg
New-Review for the splendid pub
licity which had so much to do
with the success of the under
taking. The district conference
next year will be held at Coqullle.
