Phone 13:1. o NOTICE TO EXTERMINATE GROUND SQUIRRELS Every person, firm, copartner ship, company and corporation own ing, leasing, occupying, possessing or having charge of or dominion over any land, place, building, structure, whnrf, pier or dock which Is Infested with ground squirrels, or as soon as the presence of lamo shall come to his, their or its know ledge at once proceed and continue In good faith to externiinatn and destroy such rodents by poisoning, trapping or other appropriate aud effective means. The following poison for the ex termination and destruction of such ground squirrels is hereby recom mended, to-wit: Strychnine (Alka loid) used on either barley or wheat, (barley preferred), mixed ac cording to the following formula and manner, to-wit: Parley, clean grain 16 quarts; Strychnine (Alknlold) 1 ounce; Ill carbonate of soda (baking soda) 1 ounce; thin starch paste 3-4 pint; Heavy cofn syrup 1-4 pint; Glycer ine 1 tablespoonful; Saccharine 1-iu ounce. Mix thoroughly the 1 ounce of powdered strychnine (Alkaloid) and 1 ounce common baking powder. Sift this Into 3-4 pint of thin hot tiHHte Hiui stir to a smooth civamy mass. (The starch paste Is hiade by dissolving 1 heaping tablespoon lul of dry gloss starch in a little colli water, which is then added to 3-4 nlnt of boiling water. Moil and stir constantly until a clear thin paste isVornied.) Add 1-4 pint heavy corn sirup and 1 tablespoonful of glycerine and stir thoroughly. Add 1-10 ounce of saccharine and stir thoroughly. Pour this mixture over 16 quarts of clean barley and mix well so that each grain Is coated. From March 1st until May 31st will be the most effective time to poison and destroy the digger squirrels as they have recently emerged from their hibernation and will take the bait readily. The county agent, cooperating with the county court has a quan tity of the poison bait prepared and same Is now on sale to the farmers or persons Interested at actual cost, and this bait may be had by applying at his office In the federal building, ltoseburg, Oregon, or at other central points In each com munity.
