SAN DIF.OO, Feb. 12. Failure
to see any brlKht future for Juulor
officers of the military air ser
vice under the present system has
caused Lieutenant Frank Seifert,
who trained distinction in the sum
mer of 1923 by piloting rne of the
planes during the mid air refuelinK
tests at Rockwell field, when eight
world's flight records were broken
to resign from the air service, ac
cording to an interview in the San
Diego Union today.
Most of the outstanding achieve
ments of the air service has been
conceived and executed by the pi
lots themselves the resigning lieu
tenant stated.
"The trans-continental flight of
Kelly and Macreaily. was conceived
by these two men themselves."
says Lieqtenant Seifert. "Smith
and Rlchtcr should be Riven cred
it for the midair refueling ex
ploit and Eric Nelson and Lowell
Smith were in the main respon
sible for Initiating the world
flight project and setting it
through to a- successful conclu
sion." Lieutenant Seifert leaves the
ale service with a record of l.ouo
flying hours without ever having
had a crash.

Dr. .Miller contended that genera

I Today the physical animal fac

Iir. .Miller advised t-'ie associa

in terms of chest npunsion when
dealing with individual require

of character.

Cigarettes
TO the general public, we believe it
will he surprising to learn that
nearly half of vkat they fay for ciga
rette goee to the government Jot tares.
The internal revenue stamp on a
Trackage of twenty Lucky Strike ciga
rettes eottt you six cents. On a 75c
tin of one hundred the revenue
stamp costs you thirty ante.
So nearly one-half of what you pay
for cigarettes u spent by you for taxes.
This is certainly the heaviest tax on
an article of daily and universal con
sumption.
The Tobacco Industry
and Taxes
The aggregate tax paid by the to
bacco business is with one exception.
income taxei, the largest item of inter
nal revenue the federal government re
ceives. Last (fiscal) year it amounted
to 1309,014,050.84.
Of this enormous amount of money
the cigarette industry paid $182,715,-
735.93, or nearly two-tlnf ds of the total
tax paid by the entire tobacco business.
We believe you will appreciate that
when nearly fifty cents of every dollar
paid by you for cigarettes goes to the
government, you must receive in ciga
rettes a value in return for your money
that is rarely given in any commodity.
That the public appreciates this
great value is shown by the enormous
increase in the consumption of ciga
rettes.'
Our reasons for this
tax free offer
We know this offer induces men to
try Lucky Strikes it "Wins More
Friends.
We know that a large percentage of
thoee who get acquainted with Lucky
Strikes adopt tnem.
This isn't philanthropy nor propa
gandajust good business, as you'll
agree.
The offer is limited. We cannot af
ford to keep it up.
We make it generous, to attract at
tention.
Super-quality
Only by immense volume can we
produce such an aristocratic cigarette
as Lucky Strike at such a democratic
price.
Its quality is supreme because it has
that costly extra process, toasting,
which improves the flavor and adds to
the taste of even the finest tobaccos
that are used in Lucky Strikes.
Cleanlineos and Care
in Manufacture
Every Lucky Strike factory is a
model of sanitation. Read how Al
fred W. McCann, the noted food ex
pert, describes one of our factoriesi
"White walls and ceilings, floors as
clean as freshly chiseled marble,
cutting machines and wrapping
machines that take away from the
human hand all detail and leave
nothing to the human supervision
but the watchfulness of trained
eyes."
We know a trial will make you a
permanent customer of ours.
