IN MEMORY OF THE GKEAtf The vigorous and high-principled Boy Scout one year ago introduced within their ranks an inspiring custom which might well be followed by Americans the length and breadth of the land. On the occasion of the Fourteenth An niversary of the founding of the Scout Movement in this country, February 8th, last year, it was announced that dur ing the Anniversary Week the entire membership would make patriotic pilgrimages to the homes or resting places of noted Americans who have in an outstanding way contrib uted to our country's development, progress and welfare. (Sturdy troops of Eoy Scouts throughout the week hiked to historic birthplaces, homesteads and graves many times half forgotten but for the scouts, and there with appropriate ceremonies recalled to mind the noble qualities and deeds of the distinguished men and women whose names were con nected with these places. At the tombs of all our dead presidents the scouts placed memorial wreaths. To famous statesmen, to intrepid explorers, brave pioneers and soldiers, to deep-thinking scientists, educators, and churchmen tri butes were likewise paid. The Fifteenth Anniversary this year is witnessing a recurrence of this laudable custom. All Scoutdom this week is keeping tryst with America's greal heart and mind. Scouting which so ably teaches live, every day patriotism and service to fellowman, presents no more touching and effective method of instruction in its great work. Iiythis simple ceremony America's boyhood is vivid ly' impressed with the sublime love of country and service to mankind which have marked the lives of these honored com patriots. o ' PICKMS Br BERT & BATES GOOD EVENING FOLKS If it weri not For a littta ego In this of world We'd all be Slinkin' along The back street.. The meeting was a lively one marked with much interesting discussion and characterized by constructive criticism resulting in several changes ln the regulations of the contests. A new section consisting of the Glide and . cominguoua districts was created to be known as Sec- est in the selection of a suitable location for the proposed new high school building-, nearly 1200 persons taking ad vantage of the opportunity to vote their choice. The decision favored the Bellows tract in West Roseburg by a majority of 133, sufficiently large enough to leave no question as to the wish and will of the people of this school district. It is the hope of all cor cemed that this action disposes of the site question for all time to come, a matter that has been engrossing b'ie time of the school board or many weeks and which Jias caused much delay in starting construction work, which, if carried f:ut in the quickest possible way, will make it a hurried up job to complete the new building and get it ready for occu pancy by the latter part of the present year. The will of the majority should prevail in all things and cement opposing forces for the future development of Roseburg and its pub lic school system. uliiu iiieu iiL.ni.:niu FALLS HI SHOW from, and believe wo -are in a '" 9; also all schools west of oreens to and including Willis Creek, are to go to Camas Val ley for their sectional meet, giv ing to Greens, Koberts Creek and Glengary their choice of either Camas Valley or Roseburg for the sectional meet.
