COMMITTEE IS NAMED Men Selected to Aid Dele gation From Southern Part of County Plan for Caravan. , The board of directors cf the j chamber of Commerce met in reg-1 ular session yesterday afternoon, : a quorum being present, althcugh ; several members were unavoidab-' ly absent. : The secretary announced that i on Tuesday, October 14th, 1H0 to ; llu business men of Portland would visit the city under the au-1 spices cf the Portland Chamber of Commerce, arriving In Uie city at 3 in the afternoon and remaining i until 11 o'clock that evening. It -has been suggested that an auto tour of the valley take place at 4 ! in the afternoon, that at 6:30 in the evening a dinner be given to ! the visitors to which all members of the local Chamber of Commerce: would be Invited and act as heats, j After dinner the evening would be spent In any way that the visitors ; wished. The secretary was In-' atructed to keep the matter in mind and start making the proper I arrangements for the reception of the guests. The secretary read a communl- j cation for a committee of proml-1 nent citizens of the southern part ' of Douglas county asking the 1 j Chamber of Commerce for an in- I dorsement of the plan to com- plete the Canynville-Crater Lake; cut-off highway as soon as pos-i I sible. The following resolution was Introduced and unanimously adopt ed: I Whereas, There seems to he aj great deal of sentiment in favcr of completing the highway between Canyonville and Crater I.nke. and 1 Whereas, at a meeting of repre I sentatlve citizens held in the southern part of Douglas county recenlty, resolutions were passed asking this Chamber of Commerce to endorse such a project, and Whereas, the county engineer hns made an Investigation of the 1 project and states that the remain ing work to be done cn the high-j way w 111 not cost a great deal of j money, and that tho project is 1 feasible, therefore, be It J Resolved, by the board cf direc tors of the ltoseburg Chamber of Commerce that we endorse the 1 project and request the. county ' court cf Douglas county to make a complete survey of lite proposed work to be done n the highway, and that said county court make every effort to complete the high way as soon as possible, thereby 1 opening up a short cut from the Pacific hUfhway in this county to Crater and Diamond Lakes. I'pon luction the president was' requested to apjvolnt a committee from the Roseburg Chamber of Commerce to act with the commit tee from the southern part of the county in this Important matter. The secretary read a communi cation from the McMinnville Com mercial Club asking that this chamber act in the affirmative in the matter of asking legislation looking towards the establishment of a state park board to establish and maintain scenic parks throughout Oregon. The niatter of increased mem bership for the Chamber of Com merce to take care of the growing needs of the organization was tak en up and discussed.
