SOTAGE GROVE. May 21.
The motorcycle hill climb of Mt. Da
vid Sunday was a great success. It
Is estimated that between 1,500 and
2,000 automobiles were parked
along the highway and at least 6.000
people were there. Van E. Kemery
of Eugene, secretary of the Eugene
Motorcycle association superintend
ed the event. Following were those
who entered the contest: Cody Ev
ans from Salem, Harley Davidson;
Cliff Hill from Portland, a Hender
son, the first trial and an Excelsior
the second; Langdon Howard of
Portland, an Excelsior; Paul Wll
bourne, Eugene, a Harley Davidson;
Dill Davis, Eugene, Harley David
son; Levi De Buy, Eugene, Harley
Davidson; George Kaster, Salem,
Harley Davidson, George Beechtold,
Portland, Indian; Cecil Brown, Port
land, Indian; George Frost, Rose
burg, Harley Davidson; Roy Mont
gomery, Portland, Excelsior.
George Beechtold won the ama
teur contest, making 232 feet of the
350 feet the height of the hill, on
an Indlf.n. Cody Evans from Salem
won both the 61 experts, and the big
motor of 80 open by going over the
top In 13 3-5 seconds, on the Harley
Davidson. There were four who
went over the tops this year, Harry
Lewis from Roseburg in 13 seconds,
all on Harley Davidsons, and two
others in longer time. The climb
this year was much more interest
ing than ever before. There were
better machines In the race, and al
so better riders. The Calapooya
club of Cottage Grove closed tin ay
with a picnic at the Calapooya
