ACTION ON BONUS
BILL IS DELAYED
WASHINGTON. March 21 Repuo-
j lican members of the senate finance
j committee decided today to seek the
I advice of President Cooiidge before
putting the bonus bill ahead of lax
legislation, a step apparently favor
ed vy me column ire im-u.
It is the opinion of tho mnjorlty
members. Chairman Smoot said, that
the committee should know what
expenditures would have to be met
through pnssage of tho bonus bill be
fore determining the revenue, which
must be raised, under the next tax
rates. He and Senator Curtis of
Kansas will confer with tho president.
Senator Smoot again threatened
night sessions of the committee if
greater speed in considering the bill
Is not made.
If decision is reached to put the
bonus ahead It probably will be taken
up next week. Mr. Smoot said.

Mrs. C. M. Plumb arrived In this

Arthur W. Lawrence and son of

burg today visiting with friends.
They are on their way to Marshfleld
where they will spend several days
with friends. Mr. Lawrence has a

Mrs. I. E. Farrls of Portland, who
has been spending the past week in
this city visiting at the home of
Mrs. M. Crawford, left this after
noon for Eugene where she will
spend some time visiting with her
sister. Mrs. R. E. Morris, before re
turning to her home In Portland.
J. B. Crary, local Fuller Brush
dealer, will leave Monday for Eu
gene where he will enter the Uni
versity of Oregon. He will continue
his salesmanship for the Fuller
Brush company in that city. Mr.
Crary Is a member of the Phi Delta
Theta fraternity.

steadily and acquiring valuable ex
perience since his 'last ' clash with
Carlson, and his showing in tonight's
battle will doubtless be one that will
compel Carlson to extend himself to
the limit.

LODGE TO BEAUTIFY
TRIANGULAR PARK
The Eastern Star lodge hai defi
nitely decided to take over and beauti
fy the triangular park in North Rose
burg, Just north of the Deer Creek
bridge, and Is preparing plans for the
lodge design which Is to be worked
out in the center of the tract. This
work Is being done following the pro
posal Bubmlted by the City Beautiful
Commission, and the members of the
lodge are quite enthusiastic over the
plan. Shmbs and flowers are being
ordered and within a short time the
park will be one of the beauty spots
of the city.

up the plant between Oakland and
Sutherlin pending the settlement of
labor liens amounting to more than

today following hi plea of guilty on!

the person of W V. Hurst, of Myrtle
Creek. Hurst Is the owner of the tele- j

scriber it Is claimed. They disputed
