other boys arrived In town this after
noon and tonight Chief of Police
Ketch, Sheriff Starmer and all of the
reat of the "fellers who stand fer
law" will be placed lu the calaboose
and tholr badge of authority pinned
on the peace officers of Happy Can
yon, which opens tonight for a three
night run at the armory.
Happy Canyon's band will, appear
on the streets this evening and ren
der their famous selection, "The
Old Cray Mare," followed by the
drum corps and the cow punchers of
the village.
The doors of Happy Canyon will
be thrown open at 7:30 o'clock and
at 8 o'clock the curtain will go up on
the Slippery Gulch musical comedy
girls and comedians. For thirty
minutes they will hold forth and fol
lowing that feature of the evening
will bo the various Happy Canyon
games, and the Slippery Gulch dance.
All Is in readiness for the big show
and large crowds are expected to
night. A general admission of 50
conts Is charged for which each per
son will receive SuO.ooo German
marks, the official money for use In
Happy Canyon.
The sky will be the limit tonight,
boys.

Sheriff Sam Starmer left this morn
ing for Glendale where he spent the

Charles Carson, ' who has been
spending the past two weeks in this
city left this afternoon for his home

immigration commission because of
the "subservient character" of
American diplomacy "actuated by
fear mostly" In dealing with Japan.
Appearing as spokesman for a ;
California deliberation at the com
mlttee's hearing on the Japanese
Immigration bill, Mr. Phelan declar
ed that to give the Japanese the
same recognition as is accorded
Europeans under the quota provi
sions would be to "discriminate"
not against them but "in favor of
them as against the Chinese, the
Hindoos, the Siamese and other
proud and cultured people."
Citing that "the federal govern
ment by law for 130 years has
drawn a distinction between those
that are eligible to citizenship and
those that are ineligible." be as
serted that since adoption of the
gentlemen's agreement in 1908,
"38.000 Japanese woman have been
sent In with Japanese passports as
nlleged brides."
