ticularly 'prunes. Is one of the big
gest matters now before the prune
procuring counties of the state, ac
cording to Prof. Ernest H. Wiegand
of the Oregon Agricultural college.
Many Inquiries on drying and drying
mei hods are being received at the
college dally, Pror. Wiegand savs and
the Experiment Station with which
he Is working. Is endeavoring to do
everything possible to give the grow
ers the help and assistance they de
sire. Pror. Wiegand is being sent nut bv
the experiment station, under the
auspices of the Extension service to
aid In the Improving of driers, bring

prunes and alo to lessen the cost
of Hrylng to bring about a savir,t
to the prowers. He Is also endeavor
ing to make it easier fer the growers
to find out where to obtain ma
terials for reconstruction of driers
and to give Information regarding
the minor detalles of Installing fans

The college this year has a new
service, he states, and is sending out
blue prints and plans or the latest
Improved drlee, the plans being
available to all growers who desire
to Install the recirculating system of
'trier. The plans are being dsltrl
buled at a very small cost, the
amount charged only covering the
cost of blue printing. The plans ate
constructed to scale so that they cen
be easily followed by any contractor
or enrponter.
The newly developed driers have a
fixed capacity. Mr. Wiegand states,
but the capacity can be reduced hv
lowering the height of the tunnel.
Heretofore many tunnels were re-
eulred to hnnrile eight tons or prunes
dally. In the new drier one tunnel
w'll handle eight Ions every 24
hours.
