St. Valentine's a at 1 IT A Canyon Camp Pavilion j Neat Canyonville Wednesday, Feb. 14th AMENDMENT PROPOSED Governor Wants Banking and Fish Commissiop Included in Departments Listed in Consolidation Program SAI.EM. Feb. 13. Senator Eddy and Governor Pierce are to get to gether today and aee If they can har monise the views of the governor anu the 17 senators on consolidation. This waa the decision last night after the senators were in secret council for several boura. Apparently the sticking points are the amendments proposed to senate bill 2u5 by the governor. This ia the measure having the support of a ma jority of the senate. The amend ments of the governor are to place the banking department in the con solidation program and also the com mercial fihli commission. Little objection la made among the senators to the absorbing of the bank department in the bill, but there is some protest against the governor ap pointing the superintendent of banks. Members of the game commission are now removable by the governor "for the good of the service," but members of the fish commission can only be removed "for cause." The governor wanta authority to remove Clsh commissioners aa easily as be can dispatch members of the game commission. The fish lobby objects to the governor's Idea, declaring there are a thousand reasons why the fish commission should not be Included in the consolidation plan. Governor Pierces position on con solidation has been so unstable in the view of some senators, the governor being supposed to switch from one bill to another from day to day, that yesterday afternoon an attempt was made to have him sign a statement chat he favored the Eddy-Garlund bill, which Is S. B. 2U5. The governor de clined to commit himself. The entire proceedings of the con solidation negotiations are now being veiled in mystery. Tho governor asked the senators not to discuss with the press the various phases of the conference and they are abiding by his Injunction. This gentlemen's agreement to bottle up Information waa continued after the caucus of the senators tonight. In the Eddy-Garland hill provision Is made for but one Industrial acci dent commissioner. There are now three one representing tho employ era, one the employes, and one the public. The pay of these officers comes from the fees, and elimination of the representative of the employ ers or the employes is likely to cause trouble.
