K TAXPAYERS LEAGUE DIRECTORS MEET V The directors of the Taxpayers J League met this afternoon at the W call of the president. D. K. Husen- A, bark, for the purpose of appointing' ,i committees ana making plans for JjJ the year. The new officials will J outline the policy of the organlza g tlon and will determine ways and JS means of putting these policies Into A effect. A. held Its regular monthly business meeting at the school house, with a large number In at tendance. The following excellent program was heartily enjoyed by all. The Conservatory Juvenile Orchestra of fourteen pieces made Its first ap pearance and delighted the audience with Its selections. Frances Butner accompanied five of Mrs. Falbe'a pupils, who sang a group of songs, which were much enjoyed. The piano aolo by Gwendolyn Johnson was rendered In a pleaBlng manner. "I wonder If ever the Rose" and "The Night Wind" were charmingly sung by Mrs. Ashcraft, with JJrs. Bern Is at the piano. The piano solos by Grace Wallace were highly appreciated. The vocal solos by Dorothy Arun del, accompanied by her father, pleased ber audience. The address of the evening, "American Education from the view point of the Church," by Rev. Quick received a hearty applause. A few of the points made by the speaker are as follows: The Christian ele ment In a community should have I a share In forming the alms of ed- ucatlon. The purpose of education should be the training of, not only the mental and physical, but also I the spiritual side of the child; for the spiritual Is higher than the phy sical or the mental. We have na tional problems that are of a serious nature. Wo must have an Intelli gent citizenship to have national in tegrity. Many foreigners bring old religious superstltutions and there fore need spiritual training. The criminal class Is growing and man of them are from the educated class. God called a million people out of slnvery In Egypt to be his "Chosen People" and held them to gether by the bands of a common religion. Religion Is the greatest known cohesive power in the world. Education alone Is not enough to hold a nation together. Greece fell at the xenlth of her cducatlonnl career. Under Ideal conditions lib erty might be strong enouch to bind a nation together: but today liberty Is too often Interpreted to man "li cense" end "looking out for my self." God has done 'more for thiR nation than for nv other. He bns given its the greatest wealth, the best school system In the world: but we need to Incubate Into our nation al Ilfo God's lfleals for Israel the principles of Righteousness. Justice and Truth. FIWU1TE1 In a hard fought and close Fame of basket ball at the hih school gym nasium last night, the local high school tera defeated the Natlunal Guard company team by a score of 2t to 15. It was a good snappy contest from the etart and was witnessed by a large criiwo of enthusiastic rooters. The guard team was (.omewhat crip pled due to the fact that Wally Itapp. star forward, was unable to play. Ilapp Is entering high school in the mid- semester and has been practicing with the high school team. He Is a veteran player and had a place on last year's team, and aa a result he is fam iliar with all of the high school plays and signals and could not be used In last night's game. In spite of the fact that the substitute was an excellent player the team was not up to Its usual form. However, the game was a good one from every angle and both teams dis played more than ordinary ability. It was clean and fast in every way and was a pleasing exhibition. R. C.
