Pretty Wedding
at Yoncalla
A very Drcty wedding took place In
Yoncalla last Monday evening at the
Methodist parsonage, when Miss
Frances Toner became the bride of
James Shields. Rev. J. R. Benton,
nastor of the Yoncalla church, oil!
cited, using the ring ceremony.
Both brida and groom were at
tractive. The bride was charming in
a gown of Harding blue, with ruffles
Of white. She carried a bouquet of
sweet-peas and baby breath.
Both Mr. and Mrs. ameias are well-

calla, and both are active members

for the convention system which I
believe at this day and age will be a
benefit to the taxpayers and the peo

ting down unnecessary expenses."

keep the whereabouts of his "secret"

The home of Mrs. L. B. Skinner, at
Winston, was the Bcene of a merry
party Wednesday evening when a
number of young folk from town
gathered to honor Miss Elaine Simms
who is visiting here from Colorado.
The evening was spent In dancing,
after which a delicious lunch was
served by the hostess. The home was
beautifully decorated tor the occs'
sion, and everyone thoroughly en
joyed the evening. The invitational
guest list Included Misses Mildred
Parks, Marion Porter, Mary Reams,
Rosina Porter, Fern Reymers, Eve
lyn Quine, Maxine Sykes, and the
honor guest. Miss Elaine Simms; Ly-
mon Skinner, Keith Wright. Ralph
Buckingham, Cyril Nichols, Adalbert
Abraham, Magnus Morud, Frank Cle
mens, and George Bradburn. Mrs.
Skinner was assisted In her serving
by Mrs. George Bradburn.

ture of the day's services was the
singing of old hymns by the entire
congregation, led by Mr. Griffin.
A number of tho (residents of
Green and Glengarry are planning
to attend a similar groun gathering
in the Cow Creek valley next Sun
day. This meeting will also be In
charge of Rev. G. C. Griffin.
It Is the Intention of those In
charge to make, this group gathering
an annual affair and it is hoped that
the work so successfully begun-thls
year will grow to such an extent that
these yearly meetings will prove to
ho a creat Inspiration to all the Sun
day schools of this vicinity. XX.

An automobile caravan of the Ore
gon Bar association will Journey to
the convention of the .National Bar
association In San Francisco,, August
9, 10, 11, the first detachment of
about 50 leaving Portland August 5,
according to announcement by Jas.
P. Stapleton, head of the caravan
committee. Each of the county bar
associations will be represented, join
ing the main procession either at
Portland or, for those routing from
eastern Oregon south, at Redding,
California. It ls expected that over
150 machines will make the trip
The party will stay at hotels along
thoway, driving approximately 200
miles a day. The first stop Is sched
uled at Roseburg, the second at Red
ding, with San Francisco as the third
day's terminal.

Bible School Group
Gathering Success
The Sunday school group gathering
held near DUIard on Sunday, July
23, was a decided success. Between
three and four hundred persons were
in attendance, representing seven
different Sunday schools: Looking
Glass, Dillard, Ten Mile, Garden Val
ley, Green, Glcngary, and Glide. A
large delegation was also present
from the Roseburg churches.
The day's program began at 11
o clock with music by Hcrsher's or
chestra, of Dillard. Merle Austin
then Introduced Rev. Gordon C. Grif
fin, missionary, representing the
American Sunday School union In
Lane and Douglas counties. Mr.
Griffin explained the nature of the
work being accomplished by the uni
on and told of similar "group gnth
eriugs" which are being held in the
other sections with great success.
A team from the Christian Work
ers' band, under tho leadership of
Claire Geddes, was present from
Roseburg, and gave a very enter
taining and helpful program consist
ing of a vocal duet by Mrs. Love and
Miss Love; scripture reading by Jas.
McClintock; talk regarding the na
ture of the Christian Workers' band
by the leader. Claire Geddes; vocal
solo by Miss Vivian Orcutt; talk by
Miss Bertha Pentney on tho Divin
ity of Christ; quartet by Miss Orcutt.
Miss Pentney, Mr. Geddes, and Mr.
McClintock.
Special numbers hod been prepared
by the Green snd Glengary Sunday
schools, consisting of a reading by
Miss Jeanette Croft, of Green; es
say on the life of Paul, by Arthur
McOhehy, Glengary, and the repeat
ing In concert of the Ten Command
ments by five juniors In the Glen
gary school.
Rev. L. M. Boozer was unahlo to
be present as announced, but his
place was very aldy filled by Rev.
Charles C. Hulet. Presbyterian Sun
day school missionary.
During the noon hour a basket
dinner was enjoyed by all on the
grounds and nt 2 oclock the services
were continued.
A prominent feature of the after
noon program was an address by B.
L. Eddy, of Rnselmrg, on the sub
ject, "The Bible The Word of God."
