Con vie. I tion that tha rarmam nf fhn I Tn It nH J: States bave "turned the corner" and A are now started on the road to nor J!nially prosperous conditions was the 'concensus of statementR hv rntorn. ors of leading agricultural states made public here today. The assurances were jrlven In re sponse to an inquiry by K. A. Strout to ascertain the facts concerning the agricultural situation.' They came from agricultural states representa tive of all sections of the country. , rrom New England to the plains j Btates of the Middle West and from the Great Lakes to Virginia and Mississippi. In making these reports public Mr.'Rtrout expressed the belief thnt they reflected accurately a wide spread condition extending through out tho farming states from the At lantic seaboard to the Rocky Moun tains. Some of the governors not only as serted that the ' farming situation was Improved but forecast Imminent Improvement In the Industry gener ally. Oinu of the most optimistic of the statements came from Governor Harry L. Davis, of Ohio, who tele graphed: "Our department of agriculture has made a survey of farm condi tions In Ohio. Glad to advise that agriculturally Ohio farmers are on the upgrade. Improvement In price of farm products and Improved mar lcetitig conditions have given Ohio farmers renewed hope and 1922 gives every indication of being a nfore prosperous year thna the past. "Ohio is In as snnnd condition as any state in the Union. We have turned the corner and are going for ward agriculturally, Industrially and commercially." Extracts from the messages of some of the other governors follow: Governor McCray,' of Indiana: "Conditions are Improved and pros pects brighter In Indiana. On the whole, the outlook Is good for an early return (o normalcy." Governor Sproul, of Pennsylvania: "I feel that all conditions point to better times for agriculture In Penn sylvania. There was be some delay due to disturbance Incident to the threatened conl strike, etc., but I feel thai much belter Industrial couth uous art; iniiiiiueni nuu inai out lartuuis, boiug so close to tnu mar arts, whl benefit." governor Hyue, of Missouri: "Tut corner has uonnneiy4' heeti turned Missuurl farmers being cloje to three great terminal markets, Kansas Ot). St. Louis and St. Joseph, bavu been more fortunate than taunt ra more remote from terminal lu.iikeis." Governor K. Lee Tilnkle, of Vir ginia: "Agricultural conditions art recovering from deflation to some extent. Farmers are looking forward now as prices advance. "The wholesome effect of the late disastrous conditions Is shown In the farmer s determination to organize and practice business principles in production and marketing. He Is preparing to diversify, to gtow more iood and feed crops and remove him self from the uncertainty of a one crop dependence. "The Virginia department of agri culture had more Inquires for farm land from all sections of the Union during the past two months than ever before In its history." Governor Baxter, of Maine: "1 consider the agricultural situation of Maine more favorable. The lmiulrj for Maine farms Is five times as greal as one year ago. Unquestionably the business of farming will be very at tractive in Maine in the next ten years." Governor . Cox of Massachusetts, and Governor Russell of Mississippi, reported favorable conditions In those two slates. Governor McKelvle, of Nebraska, was quoted as saying: "Nebraska has turned the corner and Is now well on the way back to normal and perma nent prosperity. The farm value of principal agricultural products In Nebraska Increased $65,307,000 be tween November 1, 1921, and March 1, 1922. "While the prices for farm pro duets have Increased, the prices of things for which these products must be exchanged have declined. , This readjustment of exchange values U of basic Importance and Is perhaps the most significant Indication of a return to normal prosperity. There is profit now In nearly all branches of farming."
