There are not enough hoes raised In any county In tho state to consume the waste products of the farm, L. J. Allen, assistant fctuto club leader, who Is now enpaited In a speakinn tour of the county, stated today. Mr. Allen is a specialist In the livestock industry and Is making a close study !n the Industry particularly as it per tains to hes and their use for the consumption of wasto products and for their food value on Uie average farm. Mr. Allen Is endeavoring to link up the cluh work more closely with that of the county agent and secure the aid and cooperation of the par ents and adult farm bureau members in aiding the boys and jrirla of the pig clubs to bring the industry to a point where the production will meet the demand. "On every farm there are a great many products which are a complete waste," Mr. Allen says. "There are fruits, vegetables, skim milk, etc.. served at 6:30. Iiy order of IF. P. W. V. HARKIS. Pecy. New York Kun. i Webster's Lout Opportunity. Daniel Webster, expounder of the Constitution, great senator and elo quent orator, had set his heart on be coming chief magistrate of the Ameri can republic. All efforts to secure the presidential nomlnatl'Si proved abortive. He could have hud the nomination for the vice presidency in 1840 by simply Indicating bis willing ness to accept. Disdainfully lie brushed the suggestion nside. He considered himself above playing second liddle with William Henry Harrison. These waste products If combined with a little green feed and corn, will support several head of hogs which would be of much benefit to the county. "There Is hardly a farm In Ore gon that Is producing enough hogs to take care of the waste products. The average farm can support two to four hogs just with the food which otherwise would be a complete waste. During the past year, Oregon shipped In over .10,000 hogs when we should have been shipping them out. "There is no reason why the boys and girls of the county should not relievo this condition and at the same time make a profit for themselves. It Is our aim to Interest the children and their pnrents in this task. We do not desire to have a few farms raising a' iarge number of hogs but rather each farm raising a few, iust enough to consuino the food whirh otherwise would be a total loss. We are endeavoring to work these clubs in connection with corn clubs so that green food could bo provided In ad dition to the waste products of the farm." Mr. Allen states that demonstra tions will bo held throughout the county showing home butchering nnd curing methods. Kvery farm family should have from r.OO to 7.10 pounds of pntk, he slates. At tin; present time he states the dogs In the county are valued higher than the hoes. An effort Is also being made to Interest boys and girls In calf clubs nnd nbo In turkey clnlis. At Oakland n bank there has offered to finance school children who desire to buy ecgi to hatch, for the purpose of raising bet ter breeders. Attention is also to bo given to the raising of certified seed potatoes. Mr. Allen, accompanied ny scnoo Supervisor II.' M. Animals Blush. Toots have for at:es regarded the blush as a thing of beauty in the gentle sex; but, after all, It is only a rush of blood to the face, caused by modesty or some otln r emotion. An imals blush, too, we are told, but through feur.' Horses blush in their ears, especially the left one. When a horse Is frightened bis left ear will be found to be very much swollen. This Is also the case with rabbits. Cows and similar animals blush just above the hoof while the dog uses his tail for this purpose. When a dog Is frightened his tail hangs limp, as he has lost all control over it. Even in sects are said to blush. They do It in tlielr antennae, or feelers.
