These girls cerlalnly lived up to the name "Hap py, .Harmony," their voices blending beautifully and they kept everyone In a happy frame of mind. Bolos, duets, trios and quartettes made up the vocal numbers with several In strumental selections. Two of the young Indies proved to be fine read ers and brought down the house with their fine work. Miss Ilrunt as a child Impersonator made a great hltf with the audlonce. These young lwrftis will be the guestB of the rhurch over Sunday and will sing at the Ilible school and the morning service. In the evening they will give a thirty minute sncred concert. The church Is arranging to put in more chairs to fill all available snare as it Is expected that at that there will not be sufficient room to accomo date all who desire to hear the young ladles slug, for onco to hear them Is to want to hear them again. Miss Hylvla (llifllen, who Is well known here Is the leader. V.ss Oil men was a member of the famous (illfilen-llatley iiartette that sang here some time ago. The other mem bers are tho Mlsse Vivian Whistler, Helen (iondwln and Alice Ilrunt. LETTC?S FROM THE PtOPU I'O.MWIiM.Ml A NKW HOI si:. covin- To the Kdllor: The proposal to expend approxi mately f 110,000 In remodi'llng the old courthouse meets with such unlvvrj snl rrtltelsin that It is to be hoped the county court, which of course Includes the commissioners as well, will not make Ibis exIinvaKsnt blun der without having everything yos sible done 1o dissuade them from II. If thure was no other place to build the courthouse, and It was necessary to rebuild on the same space, there might be some excuse for .remodelling the old building. Hut In this case, the very opposite Is tnii. And Instead of the present building being in the proper locution Itself. It is in the most inconvenient and iinsUthlly pan of the court house Kiounds. The lull il In V should lie between Hie present building and the coiner of Main and Houglna streets. A new courthouse should not cost to exceed $75,000 for the building alone. It Is uncanny eiravai;ance to niend thousands of dellars for! marble balls and Imported hurd woods of no practical utility. COME. the Interior of the old courthouse building could be made available for a splendid school building. There Is no legal obstacle in making an ar rangement with the school district for this use. All that It would need . Or If It was not wantud for a school building. It could lie used to great advantage as a hospital, filling a much needed addition to present facilities. Other uses eould be named. ThOBe mentioned are simply suggestions. The old building has value even though It should not be longer used as a courthouse. It is nltv to destroy all of that value needlessly, As I said before, (75.000 Is ample j ior a nw uiiiioiiiK. i ow new coun house at Grants Pass, which Is con sidered the finest In southern Ore gon, and Is a duplicate of the much talked of courthouse at Klamath Falfs, cost furnished completely ap proximately $100,000. This building is finished in the most expensive marble and hardwood. The floors were Inlaid with cork, and other fin cry Incorporated. So when the esti mate Is made of $75,000 for the new courthouse, It is a liberal allow ance for a most convenient, fire proof building, Just as good In every way as that at Grants Pass, with out tho murble, etc. Again, compare the proposed new building with the new high school building In this city. If I am cor rectly Informed, this cost about $75, 000. There Is no comparison be tween the two buildings In size. Surely we cah get as fine a building as we need for the amount suggest ed, and have something, Instead of a botch. Resides not destroy, but still have the old building also for other uses.
