Itogan of Oak land presented a resolution of the fish and (tame commission permlttlnR flshtnir In the Cnlapoola. which he claimed was In full effect. Mr. Hor nn's claim was published, credit for the statement belnu given to Mm, the News-Uevlew tnklng no respon sibility for It. Mr. Monan's claim Is answered In a letter from A. K. Iluruhduff. stale game warden to Deputy Came Warden Walker, the letter being as follows: i'ortland, Oregon, January IS, 1922. Mr. Kd. Walker. District Came Warden, Itosehurg, Oregon. My Dear Walkor: Replying to your letter of the 13th Instant: Iteferenrn Is had to the published Item In the ltotehtirg Newn-Hevlew with reference to fishing In the Cala pooia In which It states that fishing for ten Inch trout may be. done In this stream during the winter months. The order of the Commission clos ing portions of the I'nipqua river ami tributaries. Including the Cala poola river to a point on said Cnla poola river known as the Nonpanel Dam. expired on the 1st day of May. l!i 2 1. Therefore, Is of no force and effect. The 19:M game laws provide that the only winter fishing that can be had Is for 10-Inch fish and over, and these to -Inch fish can only be taken In streams affected by tide water. The Imp ma river Is affected tiy tide water, but the upper tributaries of the I'mpinia are not affected hy tide w ater. This being the rase nil tribu taries of i he !'mpiua river are closed tit fishing In the winter time wilh hook and line, commonly called sngl lui:. and you cannot get away from It. We fall to find that we have had any communication from W. S. Ill itiJItlU KK, State Came Warden. 1'V K. M. Drown. Chief Deputy Came Warden. This Is the way the editor of the Glendale News puts it up to tne county court end officers of this county in the last Isaue of his paper. The article In part says: What course la open to citizens of Glendule to get enforcement of law and order here? Bootlegging and moonshlnlug are going on In our midst, and nothing is done. Crimes are. committed, and the county offi-1 ciali do not act, or If they are com pelled to act they make the affair a fl enmnleln fiircn nml turn the crim- ' 9 Inal free. Juvenile offenses get ab solutely no attention at the hand of the court or the Juvenile officer, i We have no Jocal deputy, and no one wants the Job, and not without cause for there Is no recompense, and any- way when an officer here or the city police arrest a lawbreaker ho Is, made a Jackass by the county offi cials. Boys of school age, who ought to be and the laws reqrslre that thuy should be, In school, are not attending school but are being let go with absolutely no attention, and In one case a youth has been delinquent In many escapades that border on crime, and officers, al though called Into the case, have re fused to take any action save to reprimand him for offenses. Local officers are about to give up In de spair. Local citizens are puzzled and are beginning to wonder whother Glendale Is part of Douglas county and the stale of Oregon or not. for we are without any protec tion whatever from the law. We are paying taxes; why are we ignored by our county legal officers? The merry moonshiners hold regular reveU among us. hootch flows free- 1 ly, Juvenile criminals are committing serious crimes and going free time after time, thug leading other boys into like escapades, stills are run ning overtime in our vicinity, the gnme laws are violated daily all around us, and yet nothing is doiie. The local police Is powerless, local authorities are about to give up In despair, and cltlwns who believe In law and order are wondering what next. It Is about lime the people at this end of the county took some ac tion. Why pay our taxes to go to ward salaries for officers, county court and sheriff, who Ipnore us en tirely? What Is wrong? A recall of some of our county officials who are putting over such rank stuff might help, but the question is. are there enough people in our vicinity to ef fect a recall? There Is one thing certain, there are several county offi cials who have either got to get busy in this neck of the woods or else around about election time they need expect no votes from tllendalo. 10c Polar Cake loc Chocolate Coated ICE CREAM the new Heathized food-IOC pure Made by the Mt.
