OUR GREATEST NEED AT THIS -TIM K. ".e;i a representative body did last evening at the "smoker" Commerce it spells success not at large. The outburst of enthusiasm regarding the city s need was most commendable and demonstrated a spirit not prevalen in this section for many years. Now thai the good work has man, woman and child working community give their earnest thought to carrying out the various projects initialed. Above all means don't let our thoughts and fepirit in the upbuilding of the community become 'short-circuited That's what is the matter with power, the v,-'ii,'.:iz :.nd the objective, but in the past we have al ways allowed something or somebody to destroy the insulation against outward influence. We don't think long enough need a mental policeman to lock body and soul to some single and nitely carried forward, and never doubt until we can dig our way to force of concentration and single Monte Cristo persistency, more mine." Too many of us lack the strength to peck the egg .shell of opportunity which will give us life. We even lack the wisdom ol the grub to gnaw the chrysalis and tne sunshine of opportunity. Too many or us are static and not enough of us are dynamic in our pent up energies. Too many ol us need an agitator to keep our of service. A jump spark is all uiai s auuui me omy piace u amounts to much. What Roseburg needs most of all is constancy and consist ency, ana u wants it right now better to ground your main idea and free yourself entirely from its influence .than to have the wires of your brain cross-circuiteo wun tne danger of burning out the whole system. So, with this idea in mind, let's put into concrete shape eacr and every project planned for the advancement of Roseburg ahc ou.UCi w anoumur, never iauering, work body and soul for tin successful anu permanent building of the many needed advant ages outlined at last evening's gathering of Chamber of Com merce members. . E. Faruaworth, resident engiuejr of the Oregon state high way commission, states. Mr. Farna- worth Is located at Oakland and has the diatilct south to Kojeburg. Ihe Uurden Valley dftour Is quite long and hus been causing considerable complaint and the shorter route will lie greatly favored by persons travel ing the highway. "Northbound cars should leave the highway and cross the " track near the Wilbur school, coming north along the old load eaxt of the track and crossing back nar the Hennln- ;er warehouse," Mr. Karnsworth, ays "They should then keep along side the pavement, on tbe east aide, until pant the blacksmith shop. thence through Mr. Milter's yard and pasture to the county road Just west nf tin" railroad crossing north of Wilbur. Southbound traffic will, of course, follow the same route. In re verse order. "We are changing barricades and letour signs to conform to the above route. Within about five days the paving will be complete to the old :oun!y road, and travel can then tol- ow the highway to the Junction with he old road. NOICK TO FAIU1ERS. Tbe opinion of the attor ney general was to tbe effect that the boundary board could only de cide upon the results and that It hud no right to pasa upon the legality of the notices or other circumstances surrounding the election. The board had prevloualy declared the vote at Days Creek Illegal because of a de fection In poatlng notices. The Glen- dilo vote was also thrown out on evidence showing Illegal voting. Under the decision, however, it will be neceisarv for the board to declare these elections legal and In a letter to the clerks of the various districts, County School Superintendent Brown s'ated that districts 15, DO, 131 and lid have voted a union high school district to be known as district No 10. Districts 77 and 119 at Glen dale are also declared a consolidated chool district. The board of directors for the Davs Creek district will be composed if the chairman of the existing hoards.
