What would a nation with such a press ever ac complish? This persistently cheerful attitude, too Is the only logical one for the American press. It has been proved time and time again that anybody who Insists on 4ieing pessimistic about America Is a fool. Business dulnesa or moral slumps or political American people always get a grip on themselves and forge ahead again. The cheerful edllor.regard less of his personal fortunes, recog stxes this fart and expresses the fnlth be has learned from history and experience. There Is not much enthusiasm In this country for trade with Itunda at present though such trade is permitted because of the difficulty of gelling honest payment. It is easy, however, to be enthusiastic over the reported recent shipment of a cargo of soap. Soap Is what bnl shevlsm needs, above all else. If cleanliness Is next to godliness. It is also next to common sense. Thus fur sovletism has ben as much di vorced from one as from the other. r.U-M tl,n Ifliaetun H.,1. . The army is highly grati fied at the results obtained through the assistance of these advisory boards. In Oregon, the board mem bers total four hundred and sixty people, and in almost every county they are functioning in the most sat isfactory manner. During the past year In this period of re-adjustment and unemployment, the Salvation Army a Institutions have been taxed to tbe utmost. For the Very reason of the unstnble con ditions existing In Army plans, no new developments fori Oregon are to be carried on in Oregon in 1921. The Army merely wishes to continue to maintain and operate Us present existing Institutions. In the annunl Home Service Ap peal, which will be conducted this year from May 1 to May 10, the peo ple of Oregon will he asked for the sum of 0,000.00. This money, con tributed by our citizens, will serve to relieve poverty, disease, misery and despair among our own ho'ne people. It will be expended by the Salvation Army because that organi sation, truly national in scope, has national, state and county and cliv homes, farms, hospitals, dispensaries refuges and Institutions manned by a personnel of warm hearted men and women whom years of training iiiivfi iniHiiiiea to aeal synipatlietiel- .fall5r ' bruised gouls. and recon ttruct fallen humanity Into substan tial citizenry. There's a word, Inauguration, Having foremost occupation Of the thoughts of nearly everyone today; Not alone because the nation Has a' new administration. For the word has much of meaning to convey. I have always had a notion That thore'd be no locomotion If inauguration didn't do its part; Not a ship would cross the ocean. Nor would Moses' hike to Goshon K'er have taken place at all without a start. Friends, you know the laBt elec tion Wns a step toward the correction Of the evils which your country have beset ; nut don't let your predilection To complncent recollection Dull your mind to obligations still unmet. You, the people of the nation. Close your new administration. Which officially has struck its prop er gait; Hut no party In creation Can bring national salvation If the people don't themselves augurate. Kx. In ASK OFl'U'K IMVISIOV.
