Editor News-Review: In regard to changing tho closed season on chlnook salmon, as out lined by J. A. Zacliary, representa tive of the lower river flshnriuon. will aay the preset mason on Chinook should not be changed. At present a great many chlnook sal mon go up the south fork of the II in pq us river to spawn, while If the eason was made 15 day later the water of the south fork become warm and then practically all of the salmon go up the north fork. We would thereby lose the use of all the spawning bed of the south fork. Mr. Kachary speak of not being able to Hah more than CI) per cent of Ihe lower river. Thi might sound all right to people who were never there and never saw those fellows fish, but to one who has been there and knows belter It sounds like a . Mr. Zachary also slate that they never had a lule run of sllversldes last fall. I prophosled four years ago that they would practically exter minate the sllverslde salmon, as the eason was dry and the water low and the open season for sllvorsldes lasting until Nov. 20, or after Ihe sllverslde ruu was over. With no sllverslde spawn there will be no sll verslde. Now that the sllverslde species of salumn Is practically ex tinct, they want the season changed on chlnooks so they get ihe most or larger prt of them. - If this luw Ip changed, tho chlnook salmon will also become very scarce In a few years. 1 claliii that these fish belong to the people at large; not to a few union fishermen and two or three capitalists. Chicago Man Claims Greenwich Village (By L'nlted Press . , CHICAGO, Jan. It H. Mlkins Bloodgood. of Chicago, descendant of George Clinton, pioneer governor of New York, and vice president of tbe United Slates during the admin istration of Thomas Jefferson, and James Adams, was preparing today to bring suit against the city of New York and the heirs of John Jacob Astor for the possession of Green wich Village. The basis of the suit Is the sale of what Is now Greenwich Villuge by Governor Clinton lu 1105 to Jo' 41 Jacob Astor. At the time of the sale, the governor owned the property on which the village now stands, and other real estate extending to the water front. The Bale, according to Bloodgood, specifically exempted the waterfront, but It Is now claimed that through graft and workings of the famous Tweed ring In New yorK years ago, the properly exempted had been ai.proprlated by persons having no richt to It. Clinton Genet, of France, whflse naiie was familiar In early Ameri can history, and who married the only daughter of Governor Clinton, fought for the land, but politics and poverty defeated his effortsT accord ing to Bloodgood. Tho heirs of Governor Clinton rec ently obtained a copy of the map of the original Astor estate, according to Bloodgood, and again the legal b attle Is to be fought out In the courts. i:di.k MOWS ITEMS The three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Morey, of this city, died at the family residence on the 11th Inst.
