The churches were beautifully decorated and well sup plied with good cheer for all pres ,(ent. j The Club Cafe served a splendid umuer to a host of guests who all sreak approvingly of the splendid menu and dainty service. Mr. and Mrs Ira C Lewis and son were Christmas guests of Mr., and Mrs. R. M. Eberle. Our attorney, O. S. Brown, seems to be quite busy these days, which seems an Indication of prosperity to all. We have read and carefully con sidered the history of Roseburg and Douglas county, by Bert O Bates The mechanical work Is very fine, and the compiling or Incidents Is ex cellent and In every line we note an indication or literary talent that marks the writer as a Journalist of ability, and also as a cortoonist Mr. nates made an excellent record as a soldier In the recent war and we ihall preserve this book as a "war souvenier." The Methodist Episcopal Church Is making every preparation for the great union meetings to begin next Sunday a-week. Jan. 9. Mr. Bulgln comes highly recommended as a fear less, logical speaker. He was at one time an Infidel, but became certain of his error and embraced Christianity. One of the marked features of his success has been the conversion of infidels in all his meetings. Next Sunday morning Ouy Fitch Phelps will speak at the usual hour, but the evening service will be given up fot a big mass meeting of the different churches who may find it possible to be present, at which time Mr. Lewis and wife will be on hand to .address the people and perfect plans.
