Attorney Frank Burton, of Gloversville, New York, spent yes terday afternoon and a portion of to day in Koseburg. Mrs. Burton is one of the stockholders of the Douglas Light and Water company and was one of the plaintiffs in the suit re cently brought In the federal court .against the corporation, asking for the BDDOintnient of a receiver. He waived examlna- tlon and was placed under 1000 bonds to appear before the grand Jury to answer to a charge of assault with intent to kill. The dispute arose over a gate which Johnson bad nailed shut, blocking passage In that direction. . McGovern attempted to open the gate and was fired upon. The boy's father was The county court convened this morning for the regular monthly term. County Commissioner-elect, W. R. Long wui present and sat with court in order to familiarize himself with its duties. County Commissioner St. John Is also In attendance. Mr. ST. John retires this month and Mr. Long taes his place. Commissioner Weaver motored to Roseburg this morning to oe In attendance. Elkton People Are Visitors In Town Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Helms and Mrs. Julia Repsleger, of Elkton, are In the city today from Elkton. They came to attend the wedding of Ed Helms, son of of the former, and Miss Anna Binder, daughter of the latter, who were married at the M E. Parsonage today by the pastor. t ollowlng the wedding ceremony Mr. and Mrs. K! Helms took the after noon train north and will spend their honeymoon at Eugene and Coos Bay points, and on their return will make their home at Elkton. In talk ing of the local situation in bis own community, Mr. Helms stated that the greatest need of the lower river country Is a surfaced road clear thru to Scsttsburg. Such a highway, Mr. Helms alleges, will be of untold val ue to everybody in the county. He Is very much gratified with the sup port that the people of Roseburg are giving to the proposition, and stat ed that the people down river are all highly pleased with the attitude of the public and county officials to ward the project. o LOCAL NEWS XOTES.
