Six and a half bushels more wheal was produced per acre at the Moro branch nxperimenl station farm from summer fallow lands plowed April 1 than on similar land plowed June 1. The gain or April 1 over May 1 plowing was 2V4 bushels per acre. The gains are averages of eight years' trials. The average yield for the period Is given by I). K. Stephens, superintendent, as follows: l'lowed April 1. 28.7 bushels; plowed May 1. 26.2; plowed June 1. 22.2 bushels. Lands plowed early ill the fall with a moldboi-rd plow yielded practically the same as the laud plowed May 1, and lands plowed late In the fall averaged the same yield as those plowed June 1. In either spring or fall plowing for summer fallow the earlv plowings brought higher yields. Ilaltir Alfalfa Hot. Haltlc alfalfa has been the best producer at tile Harney branch ex periment station, either on dry or Irrigated tracts, both forage and sneil.
