BY 1DAH McGLONE GIBSON Mrs. Cameron's Hypociby In response to my request that t be allowed to see Grat e. Mrs. Camer on said ostentatiously that she would ask the nurse. She foritot to close the door tightly as she went into the other room and I heard her say in a siaKe whisper: "Ann Whitson Is here Grace, but I do not think you should see her. here's the nurse! We'll hsve her go in and tell Ann that your'e not able to see her." "But I want to see her." came In Grace's fretful voice. " and besides I sent the nurse out for ciKarettes." "Now, Oracle. I've told you that 1 do not want you to smoke." "Mother, I'm a married woman and my own boss. Did Ann toll you how Ken Is?" I shuddered at the heartless tone of her voice as she asked about Ken. "No," said Mrs. Cameron, "but I shower her your marriage certif cate." "Well. guess that will hold her tor a while." "Yes. but my dear, she Immediate ly asked about the , license." said Mrs. Cameron. " am tearfully afraid that it will come out that you were ready with the license. We can never e; plain that. ' Just then they must have noticed tnai the door was open a tiny bit tor I heard a sibilant "Ssh " and then Grace began to groan and to scream, ond her mother In an agoniz ed voice sain, "Oh, darling, darling what is the matter, Shall 1 send for the doctor?" . Mrs. Cameron came throneh the door and said quickly: "You cun see mat poor Grace is In a terrible slate. When she realized that you were here it sent her off Into another par oxysm of grief and nervousness. The nurse has gone out for a moment ami. ir you will excuse me, I will go back to Grare until she returns. Then I will ask her If it will be safe for ursco to see anyone. "1 shall have to know very soon us .Mr. llulsey ls waiting my return to the hospital." "Oh, are you going back to see Mr. Halsey?" she asked. "If you are will you plesae say to him that Door Grade thinks that she ought to go to her husband at the hospital. Will you please have Mr. Halsey get her a room next to Ken's. Under the cir cumstances I think it would serve to sooth her nerves to be near her hus band and so romantic don't vou think? The children are so in love with each other you know." I have sometimes wondered at the psychology of a woman who could make a Bpeech like Mrs. Cameron made to me. She knew that she did not believe one word of what she said, and that I knew she didn't be lieve one word she said, and yet. she look a great deal of pride In lying to nersen and discomfiting me. "I am sure, Mrs. Cameron, that it will be impossible, for Grace to gel a room next to Ken If she persists in making so much noise. I said this in a little louder tone than 1 had been using, and it had the effect that I expected. Grace soon became quiet and called to her mother in a ridiculously weak voice: "Mother, darling, is that Ann with you? 1'lease ask her to come in. I am well enough to see her nnd I want to send a message pack to my husband. I want to assure him that I will come to him as soon as pos- Ible." "I think you had better ao in and see her, Ann. She seems quite com posed for the first time since they brought her from the hospital this morning." went into tho room. Tomorcow irnco Kvpl:iini, o Movie Closeups A hobo wilh a sense of loyalty.
