This is a typical tale of the west
or Huoihwest of the days before the
fences came; the days when bad,
t)old hand it bands, of promiscuous
train holdups, with rides from In
dians, and desperadoes. It portrays
wt'h startling fidelity the character
istics of a picturesque page In the
history of the border.

theatre yesterday derived great en
loymeut from the first showing of
the Maurice Tournier super pro
luctiou. "The Great Redeemer." in
terpreted by an all star cast including
House I'eters and Marjorle Daw. It
is not stretching the truth to say
hat the picture registered a pro
found impression and It was de
clared by many to be the best photo
play they have witnessed this yenr.
The picture will be repeated again
tonight.
(Vrtalnly Maurice Tournier has
outdone himself in the putting on of
this super special. With all the sweep
ind power of the rugged west it
has also a tender story, plenty of
"punch," and points out a moiul les
son that none can disregard.
"The Great Redeemer" narrates
the high lights of Dan Malloy. a
train bandit. Pursued by a sheriff's
posso he takes refuge In the inoun
ip.in cabin of a beautiful young girl.
She conies to love him and he her,
when a pal Induces him to have an
other try at train robhlng. This he
does and is capt ured and sent to
orison. There the work of reform,
begun by the girl is completed, when
a miracle happens in the grim cell
.md Dan Malloy finds his soul.
William Karnuni. the well known
Fox fitnr will lie seen for the last
times today at the Majestic thea
tre In "Heart Strings." Mr. Farnum
is here presented as a violinist whose
joul finds expression In exquisite
melody. He plays the part of a great
hearted French Canadian, whose
love for a young sister causes him
to renounce an emiuMe career and
devote himself to the care of the girl
and her baby.
The story is filled with big mo
mentft and Intensely dramatic situa
tions. It thrills and satisfies.
In the cast are Gladys Coburn.

sweet and full of good humor when
every day she was a target for all
the tawdry compliments that any
man mlut see ftt to give her?
In my business life since then I
have often wondered why almost
every man. old or young, rich or
poor, uncouth or pi lished. thinks
he can attract any woman he may
desire. Many times I have known
men who seemed to think that with
a silly compliment or two they
could make a conquest even (hough
i he compliment were expressed In
the most atrocious L'uglish.
I have just found that a man
never looks upon a woman Imperson
ally. She Is never Just a human be
ing. She is either his mother, his
wife, his sister or a prospective ro
mance or flirtation.
However, at the time of my ex
perience as hat checker, I had no
parallel from which to draw coumlu
sions, and it had never occured to
lite that girls lu business life had to
put up with these things.
Another would be flatterer tried
to catch my hand as 1 held it out
for his hat.
Mamie came forward, saying under
her breath, "Just act as if you didn't
ee It. Its nothing my dear after you
get used to it.'
"Do you have much of this sort
of stuff to put up with?' I asked as
there came a lull.
"Well, you can stand It up to a
certain point. You can make a man
grouchy, and for your own sake you
can't give him too much encourage
ment. You'll soon learn to have an
answer ready that Is If you stay,
hut I don't think you'll stick. You
don't seem to fit In."
"I am sure you don't fit In, said a
suave voice. Johnson tells tile little
one, that you have been playing lu

turning his hat over, another custo
mer dropped a bill In it and passed
it to me.
For a moment I was thunder
struck. I didn't know what to do. I
linked at Mamie In distress and like
the brick she was, she answered my

of my hand, and with seeming care
lessness, turned It over, letting the
bill drop to the floor.

Mr. Horton," and she handed him
back the twenty dollor bill.
The man bit his lip In anger and
quickly turned away.
"I ll be reparted for that all right
said Mamie.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, but I didn't
know what to do about it.
"Of course you didn't child, and 1
gathered from what he said tha

see. Johnson and Horton are pals.
