IttiSO 10 Flying Squadron of Speakers To Talk on Measures Before People. AT THE COURT HOUSE Favor Market Commission lllll Hut Will Klay the 8 I'er cent Interaat lllll Notable will be lreaeat At Hie Meeting. The "8. O. S. (Save Our State) quad" la the designation which has boon applied to the flying acjuauroo of spoakurs who are covering the state under the auspice of the Slate 'taxpayer' League, speaking In far- or of the Market Commission bill. the divided session amendment, and against the 6 percent Interest rate bill. They will address an audience la. this city on Thursday, October 14. at 8 p. in. at the County Court room. The Market Commission bill Is de signed to give the rarment of the atato aid in establishing co-operative marketing organizations. It is in tended lu this way to lower the gap between what the consumer pays and what the producer gets. The hill la patented after the Cali fornia Market Commission bill, which has done more for the proxporlty of that state than any other piece of li'Klslatlon. It spells prosperity for the farmer and prosperity for the state at large. It is agreed that the" passage of the 6 percent Interest rate bill will mean uttt-r ruin to the state of Oregon. It means commercial paralysis. It mean" instead of b percent money, no mon ey at all. The divided session amendment. Is Intended by Its franiers to do away with the Jamming of bills thru the legislature during the closing hours of the session. It will provide publicly for the bills that the voters may know what Is being written up on the statute bookB before they bo come laws. Among I ho speakers who will be here at the meeting on October 14, are Judge George W. Stitpleton, or l'ortlntul. Judge John S. Coke, of Miirnhrleld. W. V. Woodward of Porllnnd, Otto llnrtwig. president of the Stale Federation of Labor, C. E. Spence, Master of the Stato Orange. Col. llurrls Welimtnrk, former mar ket director of California, Krsnk J. Lonergnn, of Portlund, Oswald Went of Portland, Hector McI'hersOn of the Oregon Altllrillhlr.il College. On October 11 there will be a poultry meeting In Koseburg for the formation of a poultrymen's ex change. The object in forming this exchange Is primarily to arrange for procuring of feed and supplies. It haa recently been brought to th attention of the poultrymen that they are notobt aining feed at a uniform price or what should be a near uniform price In different sec tions of the county. Certain feeds used by poultrymen, as for Instance, corn, wheat, oats and any other small grain, which could profitably be secured In the county Is now obtained elseswhere. Last year Douglas county shipped out about 15 cars of wheat. It has been estimated that more than this amount of grain Is imported back into the county each year for feed purposes for poultry alone. This practice not only takes up needed car space, but Is very expensive to poul trymen. If any suggestions can be offered as to how the poultrymen can arrange through a local dealer's office or through the proposed ex change to handle this matter they should be presented Monday after noon. There are other matters of vital importance to the poultrymen which will be discussed at the same time. The Motor Car Price Situation A Message from J. Dallas Dort President Dort Motor Cac Company. "The price of tbe Dort car i reasonable nnd fair; the total net advance In Itxt wiibln a pediod of I years having been but 17 percent against advances run Kin from 1 9 percent to 45 percent in the Hut of other leading makt'S. Therefore there will be no price reduction by this company. "There bus been as yet, no break in material or labor cont that would warrant any price reduction In the Dort Car. "On the contrary materials have been purchased by us. and by all motor car manufacturers for 192 production, at a very connid, erable advance as a whole over 1920 ma terlitl conts. "Therefore unless those purchase contracts are treated by the pur chaser as scraps of paper or the sell- or voluntarily revises contract prices downward, there can be no justifica tion for any motor car manufacturer to reduce prlcen unless he has been profiteering, which means that he has been receiving; excessive profits. "If there be such manufacturers, this Is the most opportune time for them to properly adjust prices to the sound values of their products. I heard the sound of the blow and feeling of horror swept over me as Z saw Grace's cheek turn a bril liant red from under my hand, and then I realized that I had so far for-i gotten myself as to strike her. Grace as soon as she knew that the teacher was In the room, sank to the floor with a moan, und an Missj Huntington came forward to pick1 her up, she pretended to faint. Missi Huntington shook her none too gen-' tly. and then I realized that she had j probably, heard the provocation, as well as the resounding slap. Ity this! time, however, Grace was in a per fect torrent of tears, hysterically: claiming that she was badly hurt and! hat I must be mud to do such al hing to one who had been so kind to me. 1 will not stay at this school an other moment,' said (.race, "My mother certainly would not let me stay if she knew what that terrible voung woman has done to me. I will come up later and talk It over with you." said Miss Hunting ton. , MisR Cameron, I will take ynu t your room, and I hope you will not make a scene on the way through he hall. You can sit here for a mo ment until you get over this hysteria. I closed the door, and then going o my room, f commenced packing my clothes, for I knew that after what had happened. It would be Im possible for me to 'stay in the same school with Grace Cameron. I had no remorse. "I'm glad I did " t said to myself, "She deserved She had no business to say to me the things she did. I'm glad I did it and would do It attain. She doesn't care for Kenneth Halsey, and she's going to make his life perfectly mis erable. She doesn't care for him at all. and she would break with him tomorrow if hi? father should loe his money. I wish I had slapped her ag:,in." 1 said viciously. I did not know that I had been talking out loud, until I heard the soft voire of Miss Huntington sav ing, "Oh. no my dear child. You do not wish anything of the sort." "Yes I do. She deserved It.
