That peace was not accomplished at Versailles, but on January 10 last, the date being fixed by an order In council. This order has already been tested and ac cepted In the London high court of justice. A ault was brought to com pel fulfilment of an obligation "six months from the dale of the signing of peace between Great Ilritain ana Uennanv." The court decided that peace was accomplished by the order In council ana tnat tne signature ui the treaty of June 28, 1919, did not terminate the state of war. And the date when the whole war will be over for Great Britain must also ne nxn by order In council. That will not take place until the last of the treaties of peace baa been signed ana ratified. The sheriff's office today is investigating a report that reached here early thiB morning to the effect thnt a strange man In handcuffs stopped at a farm houRe near Turner last night and had his manacles filed off. This information was telephoned to tho state penitentiary. There has been no escape from the prison, how ever, and the Information was turned over tn the sheriff. If the report is true the officers are inclined to believe the man had eBenped from an officer on a train. Tlfe officers here did not get the mimff of the womua who telephoned the report.
