A' temporary shortage of gasoline existed yesterday and today due to the failure of a carload to arrive on schedule time. A tank car was shipped from Los Angeles on the 24th, but as freight schedules were upset by the Shriner specials, It fail ed to arrive yesterday as had been expected. As soon as -it Is received there will be no further shortage. The Standard station Is well sup plied and filling stations will be kept In position to furnish cara ex cept at short Intervals of time. An other car will be shipped from Los Angeles on the first, and It la ex pected that thia will be the last to be brought In by the Automotive Dealers Association. B. L. Hyland, manager of the lo cal Standard Oil Plant, has received letter from headquarters stating that after the first of July the com pany will be In a position to supply all the gasoline needed. Thia will put an end to the shortage and wlli greatly relieve the situation. The local dealers will turn to tne Standard Oil as soon as It Is able to keep them supplied, as the cost of bringing the gas fro mCalitornla If altogether too high to be continued except In emergencies. The transpor tation and handling charges are so high that the gasoline must be sold at a very high price in order to pay expenses and consequently the deal ers will handle the Standard Oil product as soon as It can be furnish ed. Thn local autoists have without doubt areatly appreciated tho work of the dealers in 'supplying tne city with gasoline. There have been prac tically no complaints about the high er price and many drivers have been heard to say words of commendation for the association which was re sponsible for the relief of the short- aero, which for a time threaten ed to completely paralyze Industry SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. Everybody will take their lunch basket, and following lunch at 6 o'clock theh Sunday school will serve refreshments. Arrange ments have been made to have some form of amusements going on dur ing theh afternoon and evening, both for the children and the adults. The class of older boys have challenged the men's class for a ball game at 5 o'clock. A large attendance is ex pected at the picnic during the after noon and evening, not only from the Sunday school membership, but 'rnm the members and friends of the church. LEGION MET LAST NIGHT. Tho Umpqua Post of the American Legion met in- special session last evening to consider the staging of a wrestling match in this city early next month. It was decided not to take any action at this time owing to the inability te ' secure a laree audience during the summer months. The matter was laid on the table and will probably be re-considered in the fall. The boys plan to stage an Immense celebration In Roseburg on Armistice Day, November 11th.
