(Dy Mall) Leon Trotzky, the Sovlut war minis ter, is often his own messenger. While he was carrying important dispatches to one of his colleagues, the Associated Press correspondent had a fleeting Interview with him in Kremlin the other day. Replying to a question as to whether he would appoint 4ime to discuss with the correspondent the activities of the working army, he said: "This is a time of momentous decisions In RuBsia and until party politics for the coming year are de termined I cannot talk for publi cation." Meanwhile he was taking such long steps as to render It difficult for the correspondent to keep up with him. Crossing the big square of Kremlin he was saluted by the numerous soldiers who; recognized him .despite the fact he was wearing he regulation uniform, no different from that of his enlisted men. As Trotzky walked his wiry per son seemed vibrant with energy, showing no signs of the strain of the nast three years. Reaching the cav- Hry barracks he disappeared up the steps, two at a bound, with. the part ing words, "Call me up later when I have more time." Q ? ? ? F. T. D. ? 7 T WIND SHIELD GLASS . I'KUIT CONTRACTS CI.OSKl. EUGENE, June 19. Manager J. O. Holt, of tho Eugene Fruit Grow ers' association, and Commissioner M. H. Harlow returned last nlEht from an all day meeting of the Ore gon Fruit Growers' association held In Sale myesterdav. At this meet ing the directors closed up contracts for the sale of all their cherries, lo ganberries and other small fruits, the prices ranging somewhat hlgher'than last year. The sales are distributed among a large number of canneries and packing plants over the state. Comparison of reports among the members brought out the fact that the prune crop of the state was gen erally very good; that many sections of the fruit area hnd suffered very heavily from the freeze of last year, thus cutting down the total crop by a large percentage; that Lane county was faring better than the northern sections in this respect, the cherry crop here being about normal. The fact was noted that a general short age In some lines of fruit Is probi'5 in the east, and this fact is already being felt in the demand and the prices for Oregon products. T 7 ? F. T.
