There are dairymen In the Reedsport section whose cream checks average better than 16000 a year. Jerseys have a high place in the esteem of the dairymen around Reedsport. They are going In for purebreds. There were a few pioneer breeders and who brought In such good stock that they ! proved a strong argument tor the breed and sinee that time an Increas ing number of Jersey breeders are found In that section from month to month. H Is regarded as a coming breeder of the state. Oscar Hanson Is anothsr prominent Jersey breeder. His bull was good enough to go in and win first in his class at tha show held on Smith river last fall. Noah Black has several purebreds tnat run over 0 pounds of milk dally. He showed his bull last year ana too nrt ana seeond prises with him at the state fair. He aold him for $500 In a community auction. Noah Black owned Merry Oolden Lad, shown at the Pacific Interna tional last fall when 11 years old He bought this bull from the W. M Ladd herd. The heifers sired by this ball have been one of the strong factors In tha growth of Interest In Jerseys around Reedsport. More than SO of his daughter on Reedsport farms have records of 60 pounds of milk a day. WW Lyster has a herd of 47 pure bred and high-grade Jerseys. Other men around Reedsport who have good Jersey herds are Asa Hender son and Frankle Boye. W. P. Reed la a comparatively new man with purebred Jersey cat tle. He has upwards of 250 milking sows that are made up of Ayrnhlrea. Shorthorns and Jerseys. Last year he purchased 25 head of registered Jersey cattle, among them five from the Stewart aale for which he paid 11942. All five of the cows are In the Register of Merit. Mr. Reed haa some bottom land that pays per cent Interest on a valuation of 1 250 per acre. Ha is a pioneer ot Reeds port. They are raising corn now for sil age in the Reedsport section. They have found a variety called the King Phillip the most satisfactory. It was acclimated and improved by the late C. N. Rloker. of Reedsport. Two, or three years ago there were no silos In that section of the country and now there are many, with a big crop ot them planned for this year. The co-operative creamery at Reedsport had an Income of 1100. 000 last year. It Is operated exclu sively by Mr. Borglum. He receives the cream, churns the butter and boxes and ships It In addition to all that he writes up his business records. They are a model of ac curacy and give such a wealth of. de tail that any member who wants in formation can get It. Mr. Borclum was bom and raised on a Danish dairy farm and knows tlio ereamory business from all Bides. They have marvelous timber standing In all directions from Reedsport, something like 60,000, 000.000 feet of It. But It Is the standing c ass rather than the tim ber that will ultimately make Reeds port a business center of great con sequence . In Oregon.
