The history or those who have filled the Presiden tial office is of Interest along this line. Or the 2 art lug Presidents and one who wiih counted out, the great Samuel J. Tilden, these have been (Jovernors: Thomas Jefferson twice served as Governor of Virginia, during the Revolutionary War. Twenly-six years litter he hcniiue President, James Monroe Herved as Governor of the future birthplace, of Presidents, and six years after lie (inlshed Ills term, took the oath of office aH Preuidi nt of the Pnited tSates. Martin Van Huron was Governor of Now York, and after six years had elapsed be came tho Nation's President. Wil liam Henry Harrison was appointed to the Governorship of Indian Terri tory, nnd forty years later took up his duties as President. John Tyler, who became President upon the death of William Henry Harrison, was in years before succeeding to the Presi dency, Governor of Virginia. James K. Polk was elected Governor of Vir ginia In 1 8119, and President five yearB later. Andrew Johnson, the Democrat who was nominated for Vice-President with Lincoln at the time tho regular Republicans were opposing Lincoln's nomination, was Governor of Tennessee eight yearn High-O-Me That's the Proper Way (o Pronounce IIYOMEl, the Famous Catarrh Remedy Made from Australian Eucalyptus and other Anti septicsJust Breathe It. Samuel J. Tilden, who was elected to tho Presidency over Kuthert'oid li. Hayes, but was count ed out. was Governor of New York. G rover Cleveland, whom many con tf nd was not elected to the Presi dency In 1S84, was cleetf.'d Governor of New York in HH2, defeating Kol ger, the Republican nominee, by 200.000. Benjamin Harrison w.is a candidate for Governor of Indiana in 187 0, hut was defeated by "Itlue Jeans" Williams. Twelve years later ho distanced (J rover Cleveland In the electoral college race and became President March 4. 1X80. William McKinley was elected Governor of Ohio in I SIM and again In 1803. and In 1897 succeeded Grover Cleveland to the Presidency. Theodore Roose velt, who has just made the most re markable race ever run by a third party candidate, went from the Gov ernorship of New York to the Vice Presidency and succeeded to th Presidency In 1901. Mr. Taft was made Governor of Philippine Terri tory by ex-Governor Theodore Roose velt, then President, and In 1 90S succeeded Theodore Roosevelt in the White House, t may he mentioned that Mr. Taft, like his predecessor. has recently established a third party record. Thus we arrive at the year 1912 and wo find Wood row Wilson p'.tivn of Virginia ami Governor or h- J'MHoy chosen to the Presidency, while for Vice-President Is Tom Mar si.ull, a native uf I ndlana, present '"'t. r:!"r nf lils native ntate. And in the second political party in the race Is found ex-Governor Theodore Roosevelt, of New York, tho nominee for the Presidency, and Hiram John son, a native of California, and Gov ernor of Ills native slate, the Vice- Presidential nominee. Possibly In all this list there are only three whose Governorship led them directly to the White House prior to 1912. these three being Hayes, Cleveland and McKinley. Virginia and Ohio are good states In which to he born if one has Presidential aspirations Some of these Governors believe thai tbev were born through their own efforts. Good for Weak Digestion.
