Gentlemen: Dr. Piatt concluded jour Lyceum Course last night with one of the most thorough, far-reach-j lng, practical and common-sense lec j tares that 1 have ever heard. I For one hour ani forty minutes he held his audience spellbound on .his great sfbject, American .Mor als." I Had I known of the scope and character of his lecture, 1 should have thrown open the doors of the opera house, free of charge, and filled the house to the doors. Piatt has a message that man and woman should bear. You should ubb every possible method to advertise Dr. Piatt wher ever you place him. He is not an ordinary lecturer, but strictly ln a class himself. He loses no time ln getting to his subject and presents his thoughts . in a most Interesting and forceful manner. He is a master of his audience and an orator of the first rank. Everybody ln Marysville that heard bim last night, are more than pleased, and they are telling their friends all about It today. The Eugene Guard Is In receipt of a copy of 'Greetings," a Baptist pub lication Issued ln San Diego, Cal of the Issue of February 25, brought from there by J. M. Shelley, which contains a remarkable statement of the principles of the I. W. V. as set forth by one cf Its members at a meeting of the Baptist Brotherhood ln that city. The report as contained In "Greet ing" Is as follows: "The meeting of the Brotherhood last Monday evening was perhaps the most remarkable meeting ever held in a Christian church. Without announcement (save that all men were urged to be present, the pro gram being called a surprise I a rep resentative of the Industrial Work ersof the World the men who are making such a stir In police courts was Invited to make a statement of the principles and purposes of the I. W. W. It was our desire to get knowledge at first hand. The agree ment was to give him 30 minutes, durng which time he was to have full liberty of utterance, to be fol lowed by 15 minutes of questions. His position, his statements, his claims, were the most astounding ut terances ever falling from human lips Into the ears of Christian men and loyal citizens of the United States. It Is not possible to repro duce the utterances hero, but a few sentences will Indicate the trend of the address. The speaker was a Mr. White, Introduced to us as a repre sentative of the I. W. W. Among other things he said: "We are op posed to the existing order; we are against It from the bottom up. We do not respect the laws or the flag of the United States. It Is a symbol of oppression; we have no respect for It whatever. It floata over the vilest places, and has no message for us. We do not believe In the existing laws oi ine country, we do not be lieve In the system of wages. We pro pose to overthrow the whole svstem and give every man a chance. We do not believe In a God. We do not wor ship God. The preaching of the gos pel of JesuB Christ has been the greatest curse of the world, because it teacnes submission to the present order, promising something better In the near future of life." TheBe are some or the startling sentences used ny the representative of the I. W W. Since they were given In a repre sentative capacity, publicly, there can be no Impropriety In printing them. At the close of the address. Dr. Gelstwelt asked the following questions, In order to definitely un derstand the speaker, since there was no desire to misrepresent the i. w. w. s or the speaker himself. This Is not a stenographic report but those who were present will doubtless verify the language: nr. ueisiweu i understand vou to say that the I. V. W. do not be lieve In God.
