That John Hendricks, ill jal! here on
the charge that he knows something
of the murder of W. II. Shores, at
Hutler. last Tuesday, was in Wood
land. Wash., Wednesday night, wheu
Sheriff Ira Cresap. of I his county,
was shot in the local railroad yards,
was learned today when the sheriff
went lo Woodland and compared the
writing of Hendricks with that on
the hotel register.
Hendricks said he was in Van
couver Tuesday night, anil this is
substantiated by his father and
mother. .Mr. and Mrs. John Hend
ricks, who live here, nnd that he was
in the hotel at Woodland Wednes-
lay night. Hendricks told Sheriff
Cresap he registered there under the
name of J. Murray, nnd was In room
. which was learned to he true. Mr. I
waltz, owner of the hotel. Identified I
Hendricks, alias Murray, today, and
said that the man arrived thci.e
edtlesday afternoon between T and
il o'clock and leit at 7 o'clock th 'l
following morning. Ho had amide
time lo walk from Woodland to
where he was captured by the au
thorities d Cowlitz County.
