Passing a Meld he saw standing near a fence a shab bily dressed man who held an up raised gun. Terrified. Ross lashed his horse to a gallop and flashed by the Bca re crow at a frightful pace, He contin ued to beat the horse until It got beyond bis control. While crossing a bridge over an arroyo near Ross' home, the fren lied horse plunged into the rocky bed of tbe stream, pulling the light agon after it. Ross was dated by his fall but drained himself to Uie ranch house. The horse was killed instantly.
