Mr. SproekolB testified that he personally had given 1138.478 of this amount, and from hta declarations la was In ferred that he was atlll self-obligated for an Indefinite amount. The financial atatement presented by Mr. Spreckels was divided Into four accounts entitled W. J. Ilurns with a total of $123,250; "F. J. Ho ney." with a total of 23.828; "C. W Cobb," with a total of flO.OOO, and "Sundry," with a total of 166,295. Tbo allegations put In evidence are aa follows: "That tho salary paid W. J. Hums amounted to $SMH; that he was paid for subsistence $2081 and for olllce rent $1726. His bill for automobile hire was $2700 and for automobile expenses $4162. The services of the detectives and agents associated with him amounted to $70,572 and their expenses to $27,277." Among the items credited to sun dries are $11,000 paW to Hiram Johnson and $13,400 to J. J. Dwyer, attorneys who have aided tho prose cution; $5078 to Percy Deltnuu, an attache of the District Attorney's of fice; $17,196 to W. J. Burns, of which Mr. Spreckels mode mention and $5, 100 tor automobiles. Mr. Spreckels, replying to Mr. Ho ney, testified that the latter hnd vol unteered to work without pay at the outset of the prosecution, at which time thero was no Intention of at tempting to bring to Justice auy per sons other thnn Mayor Srhmltz, Abra ham Ruof and the otnclftls of the ad ministration. Denny and Mrs. Fredericks were arrested about a week ago as the re sult of disclosures made by Ktltel Ferguson .who was laken Into cus tody on suspicion of stenllng n certi ficate of deposit from a man nnmed Hlgglns. whom she decoyed Into the lodging-house In question. The Fer guson woman was sentenced to 60 days for vagrancy and agreed to testify against Denny and Mrs. Fred ericks. Or., May 20. The Grand Lodge of Oregon L O. O. E., concluded Us 64th annual session tonight and adjourned to meet next year In Eugene. The Lane county capital won the 1910 convention by a vote of 207 against 101 for Port land, the other candidates withdraw ing" before the ballot waB taken. The convention was a most successful one in every respect and was notable In that more delegates attended it than any previous session of the Grand Lodge. Hobert Andrews, of Portland, and J. F. Risely, of Onwego, were chosen trustees of the Oddfellows' Home. The following officers were appoint ed this afternoon to serve for the en suing year: Grand marshal, R. H. Reed, of Gardiner, who hud harge of the material the Southern Pacltlc stored along the Umqua river for railroad construction, has been awarded the contract for moving about 2000 tons of ceitent to Port land and San Francisco. The cement was stored along the Umpqua River nearly three years ago, when the S. P. was actively working on the Dratn Coos Bay branch. KLAMATH FALLS, Or., May 20. The Initial passenger train of the California Eastern Railroad to reach Klamatli Falls on the newly com-' pleted road was welcomed by about 1500 people at the depot today. It was a spontaneous gathering of a long-Isolated people to welcome the beginning of a new era.
