Supplement to EVENING ROSEBURC REVIEW DECEMBER 23, 1008. MONSTER CHRISTMAS CAKE. It Wi Seven Feet High and the Lar gest Ever Made. Reproduced below is a picture of a mammoth Christmas cake, said to be the largest one ever made. It was seen last Christmas Id a shop In Ley ton stone, England. Some idea of its size may be gauged when It is stated that It stood seven feet high and weighed no less than 1,600 pounds. Those who may desire to turn out a rival cake may be interested to learn that the following ingredients were nsed in Its manufacture: One hundred and flfty-twc pounds of butter, 152 pounds of Bugnr, 825 pounds of flour, 110 pounds of raisins, 110 pounds of sultanas, 110 pounds of currants, 3,000 eggs, 85 pounds of citron peel, 85 pounds of lemon peel, 35 pounds of or China Paints Itself Red. The Chin ee paint the whole country red,. ..figuratively speaking, on New Year in more senses than one. Red is the color with them .which denotes good luck and prosperity, and all the New Tear cards and invitations arc on paper of that color. Every child gets Its New Year present wrapped In red paper, and red Inscriptions are pasted over the doors of the houses. These inscriptions bear characters prnylm for good fortune, wealth and happi ness, and they are posted on each side of the outer doors of the bouses. New pictures of Chinese generals are put on the front doors; the bouses are scoured aud made clean.
