The United States land office in
Roseburg recelvtfd last night the fol
lowing telegram from the general
land office:
"Washington, D. C, Nov. 30, 1908.
"Register and Receiver,
"Koseburg, Oregon:
"New regulations governing timber
and stone entries will be In force to
morrow. All sworn statements filed
on and after tomorrow will be under
new regulations. Suspend action up
on such sworn statements until you
receive Instructions under new regu
lations. "DENNETT, Commissioner."
The Roseburg land office has no
knowledge as to what the new regu
lations are. Only entries under the
Umber and stone act seem to be af
fected. Presumably the details will
arrive In due course of the malls.

robber lined up the barkeeper and
two other men In a saloon at Hilts,
near the California state line, Satur
day evening and secured $60u In
cash from the till and from the per
son of Lawrence Brown, the barkeep
er, besides over $700 In pay checks,
cashed at the saloon recently for em
ployes of a lumber company and
gradLng concern contracting on the
Southern, Pacific In the vicinity,

premises. No trace of him has been
found.

BENSON DENIES AGAIN.

or State F. W. Benson said today: I
"I never entertained the slightest
thought of resigning my office and
wlU certainly not do so as long as
there Is a salary attached." I
He was referring to a rumor pub
lished in The Telegram some time
ago.
In case Secretary Benson should
resign before the election of a Unit
ed States senator, Governor Chamber
lain would appoint a democrat to sue. '

of Gov. Chamberlain's election to the
senate and would appoint another
democrat as secretary of state and
crests a democratic state board, with
full control of all the state Institu
tions. Secretary Benson says It Is
