A wound made by removing a limb beats best If the cut In made close to the trunk or branch. A stub two or three inches long does not heal and becomes a lodging place for spores of fungi and bacteria, which cause decay and death of the tree. The splitting down of large limbs may often be avoided when pruning by sawing ln from the underside first, but ln every case see that the wound Is left clean and smooth. Wounds should also be covered Immediately with a coat of paint, shellac or grafting wax to keep out the moisture and snores before mentioned. Nothing Is better for this purpose than pure white lead and Un seed oil. Maryland Experiment Sta tion. " Branding Sweat Corn. Considerable tabular data are given hy the New Jersey experiment station, xbowlug the effect, as lndlcuted by the composition, of breeding sweet corn by the ear to row method. Three plats were selected from the first year's planting and analyses made of a num ber of ears from each row. These ears were allowed to ripen and were planted In the season of .1907. The re sult again Indicated the tendency of certain Individual ears to transmit a high percentage of sugar and that this tendency prevails throughout the en tire row grown from such an ear. The Crosby variety was found to be much sweeter than the Btowell Evergreen. Rice a Good Poultry Food. Feeding experiments at the Massa chuBetts station Included rice, a feed which has very, little fiber compared with wheat or oats. It resulted ln a larger production of eggs, but was not advised for feeding purposes on ac count of the cost However, It la often possible to buy slightly damaged rice at less even than the cost of corn and wheat, and in such cases It Is a desir able food for variety for either the lay lug bens or the young stock. ' Roominess is just as important in a suit as it is in a nightshirt. There is no reason in the world why the body should be cramped for room when awake any piore than when asleep. A well fitting suit must be cut full, so as to adjust itself naturally and symmetrically to the wearer's figure. The drawing or wrinkling across the shoulders, characteris tic of many poorly-fitted suits, is caused by unscientific draft ing and by trying to save material in cutting. No suit cut on a narrow, niggardly pattern, can possibly fit. We carry only "hand tailored" suits, nonbreakable fronts, and in fact every requirement is met in order to give you the best.
