A green moon, which turned to a
deep red and then was partially
eclipsed in shadow, startled residents
of this city at 1:30 o'clock this
morning. People climbed to the roofs
of their houses to watch the phenom
enon, and a cry went down the main
street that the world was coming to
an end.
Many were frightened Into hys
terics, women hugging their children
and uttering wild shrieks. One man
telephoned to' Pittsburg, bidding his
relatives goodbye.
As the moon rose higher, the sil
ver light turned gradually to orange
and then to deep red, which alarmed
thoBe who gazed at It. Suddenly,
shortly after midnight, the color of
the light changed and then became a
green baize shade, as If It were
screened and was almost Instantly
plunged to the extent of half the
crescent into a dark shadow llko a
partial eclipse.
