and, after making the customary nui
sance of himself, got Into the col
umns of the Corvallls Gazette, which
prints the following:
"The "Jlnt" debate at the court
house between Socialist I .owls and
a college student, afforded fine sport
on Monday night. Packed by a loyal
squad of rooter companions from O.
A. C, the student spread the good
old gospel of republicanism all
around the socialistic brother. Like
a bantam rooster he plucked the lull
feathora from tho old Plymouth
Rock, who had been on the Btrectn
for several days thirsting for blood,
and the bantam hnd the last crow."
Previous to his last visit to Rose
burg (we were honored twice by his
presence), Lowls visited Grants Pass,
among other towns south of hero
and, as usual,' did more harm than
good for the socialist 'cause, as the
following communication from Coun
ty Judge Stophen Jewell, of Joseph
ine County, (o a Grants Pass news

her second conviction was dented b)
the appellate court yesterday.
Mrs. Ilotkln was first convicted ol
soudlng candy tilled with arsenic ti
the wife of Dunning, because of lovt
for hltn, together with an affection
ate note for her victim. The notr
proved the clue whorehy the crime
was traced to Mrs. Botkln.
The first conviction and Judgment
were reversed. A second conviction
resulted, and an appeal was brought
by Mrs. Ilotkln, because a portion of
the evidence against her wan dostroy
ed In the fire of 1906. The appeal
was denied on tne ground that Hit
destruction of evldenco by a menus
for which nobody was responsible
was not proof that the defendant did
not have a fair trial.

of Myrtle Creek prunes are being
shipped to Albany this week, to be
packed and placed on the markets.
While this by no-wise represents the
output of our prune orchards still It
represents a considerable sum of
money, and means that much lost to
the people wbo do the packing, by
reason of the fruit going to anothor
point to be prepared for the- market.
The Northwest Fruit Packing Asso
ciation, of Albany, an organization
In opposition to the alleged prune
buyers' combine, will handle this
fruit, and will sell it In the open
markets of the country, and the
growers are to receive all the net
profits, whatever they may be. Those
who have Joined the organization
here and are shipping their prunes
to the asoclatlon arc Clay Dement,
T. N. Cornutt, E. bond. J. II. Fore
man, C. M. Hermann and Kd. Young.

After long illness with typhoid
fever, MrB. Jus. Traylor died Satur
day, Oct. 24, at her home near Sun
nydale, and was burled Monday. She
wus married only about four months
ago, and much sympathy is felt for
the young husbnnd and relatives.
An 11-pound dnughter was born
to Mr. and Mrs. John P. King, of
Skolley, on Monday last.
Mrs. J. II. Wilson, of Astoria, Is
here visiting her relatives. At pres
ent she Is ut the homo of her sis
tor, Mrs, Joel Tracy.
After a long illness with consump
tion, Miss Alta livens died at her
home in Elkton Mnnduy night. The
burial took place Wednesday.
