Frnn it Hanley, of Indiana; Ople Head, the widely known author and entertainer, and Sylvester A. Long, the noted lecturor. will each address Roseburg audiences during the coming winter. In connection with this lecture course is "The Ar tist Trio" of musicians, both vocal and instrumental. These four star attractions will come here under con tract with the Roseburg Commercial Club, who have taken up the matter upon request of the ladles' Mental Culture Club and the Roseburg High Bchool As Roseburg has no regular theatre, the bringing of such high class speakers and entertainers here Is deemed especially appropriate at this time and such a course is likely to be made a permanent feature dur ing each succeeding winter, with a change of Biieakers and entertainers each year. The coming lectures, etc., will very probably be held In the Armory and senson tickets will be sold at reason able figures to defray ttie necessary expense. The schedule of dates has not yet been fixed, but we understand that the Hist attraction will appear at some time in November, and one each in December, January and Feb ruary. The public will be fully advised later as to the exact dnte and the subjects to be heard. The public In general, as well as all local organi zations mid churches are Invited to co-operate iu this movement for bringing to our city some of the best talent In the whole United States. Dtf Coquille Sentinel; A gentleman In formed the Sentinel that while he was at Gardiner, a member of the I'nlted States corps of Engineers had been at work surveying and sound ing the mouth .of the Umpqua and the Inside harbor. In today's parade, special divis ions were assigned to the men who took part in especially valorous ex ploits, including Holism s men, the survivors of the Maine, the tara who took part in the battle of Manila, and the heroes of San Juan Hill. In addition to the veterans In the parade there were big detachments of regulars from the forts In Huston harbor, marines and sailors from the navy yard and a large complement of Massachusetts volunteer militia.
