ROSEBURG STKAM LAUNDRY Oreuiiicn of Time When All Nation-- Will I'he Stuiie LttiiKUHgt. DRESDEN, Aug. 15. While der mal, is the lattKUuge usually Bpoken j n Dresdt'u, few uninitiated vlHltora I to the city would mispt'ct it, since the ' hotels are ailed with delegates to the Kourth International Esperanto con- i KreHB, opened today. Disciples of the new universal language rom all the I nations of Europe, with a Bprinkllnu I of delegates from the United States and Latin America, are thronging ! the city. In honor of the visitors. Dresden has been Bwathed In green. he colors of Esperanto, while the Esperanto Hag Moats from hundreds of buildings. The green star, the Esperanto emblem of hope. Is worn by thousands, and the shopkeepers display In their windows the an nouncement, "Onl Paroles Esper- mto" Esperanto spoken here. Never before, perhaps, has there een such a gathering, with turban- id Indian, brown little Japanese. Englishmen. Spaniards, Russians, dolmans and Frenchmen, and re p re- tent a lives of a score of other nation? md tongues, all conversing volubly a a common speech. And It Is small tvouder that most of these men and women are enthusiasts who dream of t happy future when all nations will be at peace, bound to each other by the ties of an universal language. The American delegates are seek ing to no cure the next international ongress, with considerable hopes of tuocess. It Is believed that such a ;athering would do much toward tpreadlug the language In the United States. Esperanto from the beginning has een much aided in its progressive iiarch In Europe by the support It has had from prominent men In social, political, profesloual, selen itic, commercial and educational dr ies, including different kinds of In ternational and benevolent societies. Just how many Esperantos there are In the world at the present time s as hard to figure out as the num ber of persous with corns on their oes; nobody really knows, but an estimate of from 7ft0,0u0 to 1.000, 000 Esperantlsts Is not an extrnva- jant one. It Is claimed by the Espcranllsts that the reading of the language Is mastered by very little study and in few days. To write it well and ipeedlly requires more time. To ipeak and understand It Is, of course, n the beginning apparently Irksome, and requires daily practice in order o acquire facility. There are thou muds and thousands In Europe who peak It as they do their mother 'ongue. In sound Esperanto resembles the Italian in smoothness ami euphony. The reason in both cases Is plain namely, that words end either in vowels or In "n." "I" or "j" pro- consonants. Verbs In the active voice end In "a." which is not quite aa smooth sounding as the vowi-ls. In a word, you may take a page of Esperanto and you will find that mil of every 100 words about !t.rp of hem end either In a vowel or in ')." "li." "s," or "J" C'y"). while the other Ave, which are generally me-syllabled propositions, end In tome other consonant. Sour Stomach "I tud Cii-rnt anil fnpl Ilk new man.
