spent In Douglas county, gained him
Inn universal esteem of his .neign
bora and those with whom he came
In contact In the affairs of an active
life that waa stamped with the vir

of the ranks of the sturdy first set

and reared families to follow lt
their footsteps and take up theli
work where the Infirmities of agf
compelled tbem to lay It aside. Pos
albly It waa tbe "call of the wild'
that attracted the pioneers to tb
wilderness over half a century ago
and that they "builded better thai
tbey knew," but we of tbe youngei
generation, who have an opportunity
to view the work they did. and wb
cherish the memory of their virtues
feel that something of a prophet!,
sense drew them on; that tbe vole)
of the wilderness, mountain ani'
trackless stream whlapered of an em

to a work that demanded only stou'
hearts and true manhood and wo

there is not so much as a platform
at the station, wblcb makes It diffi

uncovered and unprotected from
